I ask this Q. because my computer seems to have developed a mind of its own. Last night I tried 4 or 5 times to answer the post by Mallory on 'what makes you put a book down'. For all my answer was short, it kept timing me out - result being I gave up on it. This morning while trying to answer another post, I kept getting a message on the bottom right- hand corner of my screen about up-dates, of course I repeatedly pressed the p***-off (or words to that effect) button, only for it to close its-self down completely (automatically switched its-self off, if you please). Just now, when I restarted it, all the stuff I had written had disappeared. So is technology taking over or does my computer have a bad attitude, mind of its own? Yes, I am a wee bit more than miffed. I am utterly and totally...
My computer certainly has a mind of its own. The things I've seen it do! Our boxy friends are getting increasingly uppity and difficult to control, I agree. If you want some meaure of control back - get Linux.
I believe in your case, yes your little computer thinks it can control the world. Make sure you unplug it at night or else it will control the world. But other than that I think maybe a virus might be involved?
Walking techbane here. I was once on a forum where I would pull my message into the clipboard before hitting send because half the time I would lose it. Try sending your router and modem through a reboot. Though your bogging might have been because your screwball computer was using up all the bandwidth in downloading the update. But yes, these things can be a bit too helpful sometimes.
Thanks for all the answers guys. My computer and I have a love/hate relationship, at the best of times.
Yeesh. The uproarious amount of teenagers that will rise in anger when they realize they can no longer 'txt' their buddies will eliminate any threat the machines pose over us.
Three laws of robotics. It'll never happen. Not without some extremely creative application of those laws, anyway.
You mean the Three Laws of Wishfuil Thinking? Will all due respect to Dr. Asimov, the Laws or Robotis make a good story, but really make little sense in terms of cybernetics,
