I just finished re-reading the entries since my last post and omg I am blown away by how good this story is going. it is one helluva story!!
@ps102 - Two days have been added to your turn! Damn, I am so glad to be back here. Wait, it's @Louanne Learning's Turn. Oops. Anyway, you get 2 extra days.
I've written a scene with Olive and messaged it to @ps102 just to make sure he is okay with how I depicted Olive
New post made! https://www.writingforums.org/threads/it-began-in-a-tavern-official.177866/page-2#post-2045340 Who's up next?
Awesome post!! I think Olive is going to learn so much from Gamma. And ugh. Barnabas is so evil. I love it. It is my turn now!
Excellent post!!! You are a master of getting across a lot with fewer words. I think Gravy is up next.
@Louanne Learning - If I remember right, Barnabas doesn't know Katara is his daughter, right? If I am wrong, then I have a really interesting plot twist. And even if he doesn't, I am sure the government has records or what not. But I can make work either way.
My own understanding is that absolutely nobody except Dusca knows that. Wasn't it said by @Louanne Learning that he should mildly suspect it at first? I also kind of feel like that this reveal should be handled by Louanne since they are her characters and it is such a big moment. I certainly want to write Olive's big moment myself when it's time.
Thank you! Yes, I would appreciate being able to write the moment when Katara learns that Barnabas is her father. Hints can certainly be dropped along the way. As far as Barnabas finding out Katara is his daughter, I think that should come in a very heated exchange with Dusca. I wouldn't mind writing that, too!
Okay, cool! You can have those two scenes. I will change my plans to write a different scene/slow discovery happening, etc.
Okay, I want a vote on this! What if Nari know some healing magic? But none of the other alters know it. I am asking, because she wants to heal everyone. But ALSO, I don't want to God-Mod here by adding secret magic powers to a character that wasn't established to have powers. What if it's basic healing? Like, bumps and bruises level? (So, not THAT helpful. But something that could at least ease pain.) If this is the case, Nari must have learned it from another healing mage in the labs.
The magic system requires someone to be genetically born with the ability to produce Ether. You still need to learn magic but without Ether, it's like trying to get an engine moving without a combustible fuel of some sort. But whether Ravenna has that natural ability is completely up to you. Maybe she does but only the Nari personality has realized it. So, yeah, I'd say: completely up to you! Especially because it's your character and you get to decide a lot.
Okay, I forgot this. (I have too much lore in my head between this RP and all my stories. Sorry!) And Ravenna started as Poet class. So it's likely she doesn't have Ether. But it's possible she picked up herbal healing and what little science she could in the lab. I just don't want Ravenna to seem too powerful? But also, I am still unsure if it would be a good twist? Because on the other hand, it might be WHY she lasted so long in the lab? What are your thoughts? Because I am still seriously on the fence and right now, it could really help the characters. I am thinking maybe Nari has a LITTLE ether, but can't do much with it. She has no potential as a real mage, but survival drew out the powers. Only she knows about them and can use them.
Okay, new development. IS IT POSSIBLE to transfer Ether from one person to another? I don't think it's something we've discussed? What if it's a maximum amount that doesn't refill?
Okay, I figured it out! It's a great addition to the lore and makes sense in story. So...I am going to have fun with this.
Ether is a physical thing. It's a level behind quarks, which make up atoms. It's the base of all existence and some people (mage-borns) have the ability to absorb it from the environment and manipulate reality with it. That's the essense of it. I can appreciate not remembering all this stuff (there is quite a bit of lore) so just reminding you of it to make sure we are all in the same page Ether is based on Aether, which was part of medieval science!! It has Greek origins and you can read the Wikipedia page for it here to learn more. You technically can but a non-mage wouldn't have the genetics to manipulate it. It's like pouring gasoline on pistonless cylinders of an engine. The fuel will be there but not much will actually happen without the pistons. Not even any combustions because the pistons are responsible for creating compression. Think like an engine, maybe? I dunno if this is a helpful analogy. It may just be helpful in my head. Good to hear! Look forward to whatever you're writing.
Okay, thanks for the refresher. Can I send you this post? Because I came up with something cool. Also, leave it to me to find the world-taboos... Also, like I said before, it explains a lot how Ravenna survived for so long and makes an interesting branch of magic. In fact, I discovered Dark Magic, to say the least. If this works, let me know. I messaged it to you.
Just wrote back and do we want to move this to the Lore Discussion with Spoiler Tags? That way, it's more open and those who want to be part of it, can be. But also, keeps it more transparent.
I sometimes contemplate the idea of making a Wiki that contains established characters and lore. Wikis are meant for this exact purpose. We can do this using Wikia, which is free: https://createnewwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Special:CreateNewWiki Collaborations also become a lot easier this way when it comes to editing characters and so on.
