I've arrived, and I've brought with me a fine bottle of vintage Yoo-Hoo and a delicious array of scrumptious canapes. Because I was raised right. I'm in my early 30s and can't really remember a time I wasn't writing. When I was nine I wrote a 40 page ghost story I never finished, and no one in my family has ever forgiven me for that. When I was eleven, I wrote a 300 page continuation of Star Wars and still mourn the day I spilled orange soda all over the thing, thereby destroying my epically misspelled adventure in a galaxy far, far away. Since then, I've just written compulsively. Short stories, novels, journals, poetry, screenplays, you name it. Mind you, I haven't finished a whole hell of a lot of things, but I can start a tale like nobody's business. I've also done a lot of work performing, in plays and as a member of an improvisational comedy troupe for a few years. I've done filmmaking as well, mainly on the production side of things, serving as writer and script doctor on a few projects. I am a voice over artist, performing in some radio plays and my own recordings. I'm also a majestic bullfighter, but only in my mind. I think that should serve as an okay intro. Looking forward to checking out the forums and getting to know you guys. Looking forward to learning and hopefully picking up some good advice, tips, lessons for life. Also, I hope to shed my n00b status rather quickly if I can, and get to the point I can perhaps virtually hug you folks if I feel the need without it being virtually awkward. Oh, and I have a deep, abiding affection for this smiley --->
Oh it's quite safe, I think you'll be pleased with the accentuated hints of malt at the back of the palette. I bring only the finest (and FDA approved) Yoo-Hoos
Hello Gloria, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Fighting bull in one's own mind is always a good idea. Please read How to Use the Review Room before you post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
I know, I'm sorry I'm late. Too much traffic on the net, I swear. Thanks for all the info! I hadn't planned on posting any of my work, though perhaps that might change in the future. I'll be happy to review! I'm mainly interested in chatting with other writers, something I think I need to do more of to stay motivated and challenged. I'm already enjoying the heck out of this site.
