Er ... Hello there. I'm ... a kind of a lucky prophet, but the "P~" you'll see for signature, now & again will be of Parvo, which is a common eke I ... have for myself. I decided to join because I write ... actually, I wrote, when I was younger, I wrote something interesting, and, well, I spent quite a deal of time thinking it was a gift, but it isn't. It was ... some sort of mere-luck, back then, that I wrote something that I liked. (A short story, still unpublished.) I wrote again, about two years ago, or three, essays (or something vaguely like it), then, one of which came to be published, in a magazine. I don't intend, never intended, to live of it, and I don't take it as a profession, but I do see that, in order to achieve some goals I have with my writing, I need to master it, which I don't. This is, generally, why I'm here. Learn to work my and in my own writing, in order to write something relevant. My native language is a romance language. As you can see, I intend to remain anonymous ... Not impossible to find out who I am, though. As well as won't make any difference to any of you, because I will not be famous in my life, or at least I'll make my best efforts so as not to! Sorry fo the babling part of the introduction. It's the main reason why I am not a writer.--- P~
Hello Parvo, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
*Crosses fingers for a poet* So are you a poet? I'm begging to have new poets around. If you're not, that's dandy as well. Let me steal someone's thunder... Welcome to the jungle!
Asylum? Does this mean I've got retired already? ---- Thanks~ Don't worry, Cogito, my work is mainly in Portuguese (and, soon, in Latin, I hope), therefore there's no way I intend to publish it here ... or anywhere else, unless it's very urgent to publish, and I'm aware of the selling issue. ~ Thanks for the links; they'll be useful! I've lurked around before signing up time enough to see it's somewhat different. I hope to get the way of the land. I don't think I'll have much trouble. I'm here for council, mainly, I believe. I'll take a look. I think I understand it, nevertheless ... , but I'll take a look, even so. [part I, with 4 *3* smiling faces ... oO ]
[part II, with the rest of them ...] I'll take a look at this too. Thanks again for the warm welcome! ---- Sorry to disappoint you ... Poetry here's very poor. & not the main part I wish to explore, however even in this I need to work out ('cause I feel I need it too, it has place in one & another of my projects ... Classical mode, however ... And songlike.) ---- Thanks for the welcome, everyone! P~
All right Interesting and accordingly -- even better than what I had imagined -- the part on constructive critique. I got curious about the Review Room ... (Too bad I don't have much written in English, or I might try it ... But it's nice to have people with whom I can talk about the writing work anyway. I believe I will indeed enjoy the place.) P~
