Is Jamie a boy's or a girl's name? I've got the impression that it can be used for both, but I'm not sure..
It can be used for both. There are actresses with the name as well as males like Jamie Carragher and whatnot. However, with males, it's generally short for 'James', although not necessarily. Edit: Cogito posted before me.
jamie lee curtis [female: major film actress, daughter of janet leigh and tony curtis] jamey sheriden [male: L&O] jamie oliver [male: celeb chef] jamie lynn spears [female: sister of britney] 'nuff said?
My cat's name is Jamie, and he's a boy. It can be used for both, but I feel like Jamie as a male name is perhaps more common in the UK? Not 100% sure on that, but I feel like in North America "James" would more likely be shortened to "Jim." Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
'Jamie', like 'Jim' or 'Jimmy' is a diminutive form of James, which is only a male name traditionally, never female. Of course, it may have morphed into other uses, as many other names have done. I prefer unmorphed names personally.
