I am a writer, and i use a smaller community forum but no body being bothered lately. I previously refrained from joining a larger comminity like this because i felt that within two minutes of posting my writings they would be pushed to the back of about 10 pages of others and they wouldn't be read as individual writings. Instead of being like a production line of people ignoring the majority of writings, though i don't know if this is actually true or not.
Believe me, everyone here makes a huge effort to review what you've written and it won't get pushed straight to the back. However, you must review (thoroughly) two pieces of work before you can post any of your own. Good luck, and welcome to the forums.
Thanks, I found this place by googling "Writing Forum" and hoped someone might give me some feedback on whether a novel I wrote is good, good enough for publishing or not worth reading. I posted it on a smaller forum where they were happy to read and review my short stories and poems but when it came to anything longer tahn about 2,000 words it fell silent. Also is there an example review that i can use before i post my own? Because different forums use different review formats.
Here’s the section you need: https://www.writingforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=23 – it’s the novel section of the review room. Here are the review guidelines: https://www.writingforums.org/announcement.php?f=23. And for hints and tips, you might want to check out the reference section on reviewing here: https://www.writingforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=7. Good luck.
Hello Jim, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
