I'm looking to make some extra money because being a self-published author doesn't pay the bills right away. I can help you with copyright, create covers, formatting, and getting your book published through CreateSpace. This is for people who have little to no technical knowledge. I've never done this for anyone before, but would like to offer my services. I'm also a website developer. I don't know if solicitations are allowed here. You can always do all this stuff for free by yourself if you know how. I'm just offering my service as an assistant.
Hi, welcome to the forum. We're still working on the solicitation rules when the services apply but we do discourage folks from joining just to advertise. Since you didn't post a link, that's a good sign you are here as a sincere member. Stick around, get to know the folks, read the rules. And informed members taking part in discussions on self publishing are always welcome. There is a subforum for posting resources, I'll leave that the mods to address if reading the rules isn't enough.
It was an obvious solicitation. I didn't know that was frowned upon. I'm just a poor author looking to utilize my skills to help others who find themselves without the technical skills to make it happen.
I think you'll find that many of us are in similar position, having the necessary skills to self-publish, but we're not all looking to make a profit by passing that knowledge on to those who are less savvy. It's a relatively small leap from typing up a manuscript, to getting it into eBook format, in comparison with what it takes to write it, edit it, have it beta read, and get it ready for publication. There is a certain esprit de corps round here, and there are many people who are only too willing to lend a hand with things such as graphic design, typography and formatting—free, gratis and for nowt—and these are people whose judgement we trust due to their activity on the forum.
Print book formatting is significantly harder than ebook formatting, though. Sure, if you just want to throw something out there, that's easy, but if you want it to look like a 'real' book you want to do a lot more than just type it into a word processor file and hit 'upload'.
I see. I didn't know. Like I said, feel free to delete That's awesome. I didn't know. I just know there are a lot of people out there without the technical expertise to go through the editing process, formatting, copyrighting, graphic design, etc. It takes a lot of computer knowledge. I didn't know you had a well-developed community to assist people in this area as I'm new. I was just trying to help out. Anyway, I'll stay and try to be a good, contributing member since the moderators have been so kind to me and not bashed me for not following the rules.
@Ronald Rand It's a great site with great Mods. They rarely resort to bashing, but they make use of the naughty step once in a while. So many different perspectives on so many subjects. It's something of a shared learning curve for all of us, in one way or another. I came to learn more about the craft of writing, but I've taken away so much more than that.
