You'd think the short story contest would be more popular. The original thread has 300 views and the poll thread 159. Yet here we are, two days away from the deadline and there are only three votes(including my own). What's up with that? Why is no one voting?
I can't speak for other people, but I haven't had time to read them all yet. I won't vote unless I do. They are all long (all of them over 1000 words and three of them close to 3000). In order to give everyone a fair chance you have to find the time to read the stories carefully.
Once a week is kinda a big ask to be reading that many short stories. I was surprised that it was held weekly and not monthly, quite frankly.
Despite it's name I think it is every two weeks at the moment. Often, it is not quite so hard (sometimes less entries and shorter ones)
While the contest has been in my hands it is being ran on a two-week basis. It was originally to better suit my own timetable to be honest, but since it has proven to be a better, much easier length of time for it. I'll consider shortening the word-length for the entry requirements but I've seen low voting counts happen before. It just happens from time to time. Oh well, this contest week has had a higher voter turnout than the last UK police commissioner election (political satire lol).
Khaelmin - Thanks for posting this. I voted already but the low votes really bothered me too. I didn't enter this one so I don't have a vested interest, but the people who did put a lot of work into their stories. They deserve some consideration. I've enjoyed reading the contest short stories. The variety of ideas derived from the topic is amazing. It's a shame more people haven't taken the time to read and vote.
Five votes now - and all for different stories!!! Anyone want to cast the deciding vote? One day left.
I'm also waiting to vote until I've had time to read them all. I've enjoyed what I've read thus far, but I think it's unfair to vote without being entirely informed. Being new here, I didn't realize at first that the voting for 125 was still open since people are submitting entries for 126--it was Wednesday before I figured that out. Anyway, half the reason I'm on this site at this moment is to continue reading that thread. Off I go!
Been busy all week, just started another job. I will try to get them all read and vote before the deadline. Just like many others, I won't vote unless I read them all.
You think last contest was bad? This weeks entries clock in at 26,284 words. Whew. Good thing I read most of them during the submission phase. ~ J. J.
If they dont grab me in the first paragraph I don't keep reading. A good way to reduce the reading load.
I tend to cut them all out and paste them for easier reading. I sometime sprint as well so I cab scribble on them. I am sorry I was close to the 3000 word limit this time, and could have written another 3000 easily. Sorry!!!
Now, this is exciting! Two days in this 126 contest, and there are already 12 votes! The best part is that there's still 10 days to go.
I made the same mistake. I thought since 126 was afoot, 125 over and done with. I'll just vote twice in 126 and call it even.
