Last One Alive, Lock The Door ~ A Zombie RPG

He smirked a little at Jason's rant.

"The girl was who I was talkin' to, fruitcake."

He and Jason will be just fine. They both move at the same speed.

"And I didn't say you was gay. I was just thinkin' it."

Dirk smiled at Jason before leaving out to handle his business. He jumps back in and nods at Jason.

"You're a good man. Now drive the f*ckin' car," he said with a smile.

He looked at Lorraine.

"You missed it."

 

I sighed and looked at the new girl. She was cute but the whole exploding zombies had put me into shock. "Don't pay no attention to Dirk, I've known him for awhile, he's a big softy." I warned her quietly while Dirk argued with the possible gay guy. "He acts all tough around beautiful girls like you." I added.

 

The engine began to choke and sputter as the car slowed to a crawl.

"Great. We're out," Jerry said, guiding the derelict vehicle to the side of the road. "I don't suppose anyone has a full gas can? Siphoning materials? Gas station in their pocket?" He sighed. "No? I suppose we should get in with the others, then."

"You've failed us, captain," Fitz said. "Such is the price of mutiny. Although she was a woman, Captain Jacobs was a car better commander," he said, exiting the vehicle. "Better looking too."

Jerry ignored him and turned to the truck, which was now pulling in behind them. "Hey!" he shouted. "Room for...um, four more?"

"Diplomacy has failed. Piracy rules all." Fitz drew his sword and charged at the pickup truck, leaping onto the hood and pointing his pistol at the occupants in the front seat. "Yer booty is mine for the taking. Surrender your vessel or walk the plank."

"Just kidding," he said, holstering his gun. He walked up the windshield, over the cab, and took a seat in the truckbed. "Full speed ahead, captain." I wish I had a parrot, he thought. That would be cool.

 

Jason was speechless. He rolled down the window and said, "Argh, avast ye matey!" and started driving.

 

Dirk looked at me with a smile.

I couldn’t help but laugh, he was so cool. I turned to him with a huge smile on my face. . .
“Sorry grass snake, you weren’t my first priority. Maybe next time.”

I watched dirk and Jason argue. a never ending battle i thought. i heard a quiet voice coming from the back, almost like a whisper.

Blushing I held my hand out. the soft side i never showed.
“I’m Lorraine and you are?"

 

I took her hand gently and decided to try something a bit bold. I leaned forward and briefly kissed the top of her hand. raiseing my head and looking into her eyes, while still holding her hand. "Lorraine, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Jake. Please forgive my earlier silence my mind was trying to get the consept of suicide zombies." I explained with a short laugh afterwards.

 

He took my hand, I guessed to shake it, but didn’t. Confusion rushed over me. He leaned forward with my hands between his and kissed the top of my hand gently.

He looked up and straight into my eyes, like he was reading a very interesting book.

I tried to break eye contact but I felt a rush blow over me. Let me say. He was quite the ladies man.
I thought to myself. Oh He what a sneaky devil.

I pulled my hand away from him, turning my head in the opposite direction so he wouldn’t see me glow.

A minute later I looked back at him and asked.
“What’s your story Jake?”

 

Jason saw it through the rearview mirror.
"May you lovebirds hold off your fun until the apocalypse ends?" he said.

 

Ignoreing JI Jane, I smiled and shrugged, realising that she was the first one since the invasion of zombies that hadn't taken my playful flirting badly. I decided to try and not mess anything up. "Your average spoiled rich kid from cali, decided the it was the perfect time to vacation down in mexico." I let out a cold laugh. "The sun, the sand, the flesh eating zombies. Lucky for me as I fled north trying to make my way home I ran into my old friend Dirk and his... fierce bodyguard. She's been kind enough to let me tag along ever since." I explained and as I did remembered how much I owed her. "I should really thank her more often." I commentted to my self. "But I sure am going to miss the days when my biggesr worry was what to wear. My pops is likely long dead, was probably yelling at the staff with his last breath." Another cold laugh, and I felt tears rushing to my eyes, and quickly blinked them away.

 

Jake and Lorainne seemed to be hitting it off.

"May you lovebirds hold off your fun until the apocalypse ends?" he said.

Yeah, she thought, if they live through it.

She noticed a gas station ahead, not too far.

"There, see the Shell Station? Why don't we see if they've got some gas?" she asked Jason. "We can certainly use it."

 

I heard jason's comment.

I turned to look at him with a glare on my face.
" Yeah right jason. As if i could think of anything else besides zombies."

My imagination began to wonder as i thought to myself. . hmmmm i guess it wouldnt hurt, the noise we make might end the apocalypse.
i giggled.

 

"Wow. . . . Damn"

this was the only comment i could say to jake. his story was far worse than mine.
I agreed with jake to thank Kaeila, she was a freaking rockstar.

I dont know if jake realized that i could read him, i know exactly the way he felt, his face. it looked like he was about to cry but ego toughend him up.

I didnt know what to say. dealing with all this sincere crap wasnt really my style, but his story was kinda depressing.

I looked up with a smile and told him.
" Dont worry, im here for you. . Till the end. but if you turn. ill kill you"

I hoped he didnt get too offended. but i have to believe im here to survive.

Kaeila mentioned a shell station.
" Thank God i need some chips. im famished" i said outloud.

 

All of my depression left and I found myself laughing. "Thank, strangely, even the last bit, made me feel a lot better." I told her honestly. She was quickly going from a flirt target to someone I would bet I could rely on. "You've certainly have an interesting outlook on life you know." I said and added, "I really like it." I strangely felt shy. I was usually smooth, but her obvious blunt ness had somehow disarmed me, and I liked it.

 

" Thank God i need some chips. im famished" i said outloud.

"I bet."

He looked at Jake and tapped him.

"Watch out, bro, she'll kill ya. Gotta watch that one."

"Yeah, watch out," Kaeila added sarcastically. "She can think."

As the car got closer to the gas station, she could see a few zombies wandering near. Nothing she couldn't handle, of course.

 

The truck slowed down and pulled into the abandoned Shell station. It was in the middle of nowhere; desert all around. Hopefully that meant no zombies. There were a few wandering on the road nearby, but they seemed to be the only ones. The only sign anyone had been here was a rusting tanker truck parked behind the convenience store.

The truck pulled up to a pump. Fitz yelled, "land ho," as he jumped out the back, but the others seemed to insist on staying inside and talking. "Hey!! Get the f**k out and get me some food!" he said, banging on the window.

The pump seemed to not be working. Of course the power was out. Unless they could find a way to get the gas from the underground tanks themselves, it was no good. He looked toward the rusty tanker parked in the back. "That can wait," he said to himself, deciding to go in the store instead.

 

"Yeah, watch out," Kaeila added sarcastically. "She can think."

"Ouch. That was harsh... even for you, Kae."

He cringed a bit, and looked Kae up and down before "shaking" off the harshness. He put his hand on her leg and smirked.

"Why are you being so bad, today? What's the matter?" he asked in a sarcastic baby voice.

 

"You've certainly have an interesting outlook on life you know. I really like it." jake said.
I felt relieved that someone finally notice who i was.
i replied " Thanks. what can i say im a rare breed"

i laughed at the thought of rare breed.
I noticed a change in myself. helping someone felt good. I was happy that i could help my now good friend Jake.

I looked straight ahead. daydreaming to myself i bet they all could assume. i let it go quickly when i heard dirk say
"Watch out, bro, she'll kill ya. Gotta watch that one."
i mumbled to myself " wow, this keeps getting better by the minute"

I turned to both the trouble makers and said
" watch it. Im keeping a close eye on the both of you."
i smiled as i pointed to my eye and back to them.

 

I sighed and looked up at her. "Ok, ignore what I said about not taking him seriously, mainly because it'd be funny for you to beat his @$%." I said and ignored the second snide comment. Mainly because she could beat me with one hand. I slipped out of the car and offered her my hand to help her out.

 

She stared at his hand on her, then looked up with the death stare she so often used with him.

"Why are you being so bad, today? What's the matter?"

She sighed and opened the door. Zombies weren't enough to get her in a bad mood? She jumped out of the vehicle and took the blades from under the seat.

Kaeila walked around, keeping her eyes open for zombies while she stepped into the store. It's long broken windows clearly telling her that there would be little inside.

But perhaps she could find something...

 

" watch it. Im keeping a close eye on the both of you."

"Be careful, mama... you might like whatchu see," Dirk winked at Lorraine.

He sat back in his seat and looked out the window. She obviously liked Jake, and he wasn't going to hate on his best friend.

 

Fitz eavesdropped on the three-way conversation in the truck, even as he saw Kaeila going inside the store. A bunch of horny kids, he thought to himself. If I'm lucky, they'll be zombie food by the time I get back.

"Goin' check the place out," he said to Sarach, Grell, and Jerry who were all sitting in the truckbed. "Anybody coming?"

Only the doctor replied. "Sure," she said, lacking all enthusiasm.

Rather than wait for the others, he helped her down from the truck, and they went away toward the store together.

 

Fitz and Sarah joined her in the store. The shelves were nearly empty. She kicked a fallen shelf, and a rat ran out the other side. Laying her blades to the side, she lifted the shelf, somewhat heavier than she had imagined.

Thankfully, underneath was an asortment of peanuts, candy and other. "Jackpot!" she announced with a smile. She stuffed her pockets and opened a bag of peanuts. "Any water around?"

 

He walked into the store behind Sarah and Kaeila. He looked at Jake and shrugged with a smirk. He turned back and looked on the ground.

"Damn rats, yo."

Dirk looked over the counter. A dead body was laying there, stinking. Dirk pinched his nose and made a sour face as he turned away. He heaved a bit as if he would puke.

"Damn dead people, yo."

He walked around the store and picked some orange juice and some candy. Then he looked over by the soda doors, and there he saw it. Jerky. Tough and rugged, yet the perfect road trip snack. He snatched a couple bags.

"Yoink!"

He snatched some more juice.

"Yoink!"

He took a few blunt wraps, holding his breath as he had to reach over the dead body.

 

Grabbing a few plastic bags from the cashier's counter, Fitz returned to the overturned shelf and filled them with the remaining snacks there, pausing to eat a few candy bars as he did.

"They left some gas cans," Sarah called from the back of the store.

With his mouth half full of Snickers, Fitz ran to see. Sure enough the shelf was stocked with red 1-gallon gasoline containers. "One man's folly is another man's fortune. Who would be foolish enough to pass up such a find? Not I," he said, handing her the plastic bags filled with goodies. "Would you be so kind as to return to the truck with these in hand? I'm sure the children will be delighted to receive sweet gifts from a sweetheart such as yourself."

She rolled her eyes at that last part, but accepted nonetheless. Gathering an armful of gas containers, he made for the door. "I'm sure we can find a use for these. Gas, water, anything. They're treasure chests; we need only find treasure with which to fill them."
