Jerry ran as fast as he could. No one had shot him yet, so he figured the odds were in his favor. He focused on the garage, paying attention to nothing but the thud of his shoes on the pavement and the ever decreasing distance between him and the garage.
    "Hey!"
Jerry stumbled and nearly fell. He had been so caught up in his running that he hadn't paid any attention to the others.
"Whoever you are, if you don't want to get left out, Come on!"
It was Kaeila, the reluctant matriarch of the group. Jerry paused, unsure of what to do. Staying with the group seemed safer, but what of their plans to leave on a bus? He could just pop in really quick and find a set of keys, but it was risky.
Jerry yelled in frustration, then rejoined the group. He saw the woman he had seen before and said between breaths, "Hi, I'm Jerry."

He rubbed his face a while and took another look at the cast he would co-star with. The new girl wasn't too shabby. As a matter of fact, she was stunning. Not unlike the type of tail Dirk had chased and caught before. Though she seemed different. She looked real. He still hasn't looked her in the eye just yet. Instead, he pulls his hood over his fitted and watches the backside of his bodyguard as she leads him away from danger. Or at least, she'll give her life trying.

"Looks empty, right? I wouldn't be surprised if we're late to the party, yo."

"Looks empty, right? I wouldn't be surprised if we're late to the party, yo."

"Yeah, late to the party," she said, transfering the blades to one hand to open the door. "Just your style."

It was still dark inside. She wondered if the sniper would remember to turn on the generator. Kaeila took her dying flashlight out. Casting a faint glow, she scanned the entrance hall. All looked empty, so she stepped in.

Sarah caught up to the group, clinging as always to the rifle as she followed them inside. Once they had made it through the entrance and into the main hallway, she slumped back against the wall, breathing heavily.

"Hi, I'm Jerry." A voice spoke. She turned and saw a brown-haired, decidedly handsome-faced man.

"Sarah." She said, nodding. "Sarah Jacobs."

"Yep, you know I love to make an entrance, yo. And don't be frontin' like I don't look good doin' it, either," he said to Kaeila.

He smiled a little as he could almost see her rolling her eyes though he was behind her. She tried to get her out of order flashlight working well enough to illuminate the hall of the school.

"It's cold out here, babe. Can I come in?"

He heard an introduction between the man and the woman that were the last to join his group. Jerry and Sarah. He had a moment of decency and decided to introduce himself.

"Yo, I'm Dirk, yo," he said to the two.

They seemed normal, he didn't have a problem talking to them. He just hoped that he wasn't recognized, even though the girl was in the age bracket where she might. Good thing he's still covered up.

"Jrr is back, he wants to make macaroni," Grell said.
Grell grabbed his forehead for a moment. He knew he was forgetting something, something slightly important. He couldn't remember for a moment and then he could.
"Maxwell hospital is close from here, its a big building and it has some supplies," Grell said.

Kaeila was still scanning the room as the others entered. Though she saw nothing, they were surely not alone. She was still breathing hard, but she tried to quiet it to better hear if anything was around them.

Her flashlight went out and she hit it hard. "Don't quit on me," she said to the object. It complied and returned to lighting the way, barely.

"Yo, I'm Dirk, yo," he said to the two.

They had stalled, and as she turned to urge them to hurry, she saw something move in the shadows. Inching closer, the tiny zombie didn't make a sound.

"Move!" she yelled, running to the three. She rushed forward, pushing Dirk to the side as she speared the child zombie through the temple.

"Don't stop," she ordered. "Not until we've made it to the sniper's stronghold." She pulled Dirk along. Yeah, she was 'cramping his style,' but at least he was alive to complain about it.

"Maxwell hospital is close from here, its a big building and it has some supplies," Grell said.
Well, thought Kaeila, that was strangely lucid.

Dirk was being pulled and pushed left and right. And by a woman, no less. He liked Kaeila in action, but it comes at the price of being manhandled like the kid he portrays in most of his movies.

"Awww, whatchu doin' to me, Kae?" he asked as his feet were barely on the ground.

Fitz followed the group in total silence. Funny how the moment they're out of danger they start to get lazy, he thought. The group was barely indoors before the chatting, the flirting, and the general stupidity started up again. Once again I am convinced that that woman is the only one here with any sense, he thought, looking at Kaeila.

With no immediate threat, he decided now was a good time to reload his revolvers. Tearing off a strip of his duct tape bandolier, he took out twelve bullets, refilled each gun, and slipped them back into his belt loop, ready to fire when the time comes.

Feeling 'inspired,' he ducked into a janitor's closet a few feet away and rummaged through its contents. Every once in a while he liked to look through old junk to see what new tools and weapons he could make. The zombie apocalypse offered innumerable opportunities for new and inventive death devices.

Unfortunately, the group was moving on with or without him. He only had time to grab two cans of aerosol disinfectant. Paired with his lighter, they could make a neat flamethrower... or explode in his face. "This'll be fun," he said to himself.

Jason folded up the bipod, slung the rifle over his shoulder, and grabbed the radio. He opened the door leading to the second floor, and waltzed down the stairs. At the bottom, he hit 'Talk'

"Good job. You made the right choice. I'm making the assumption you are all still in the main corridor. Head straight and you will find a cafeteria. It is filled with fun stuff, like bullets, band-aids, and beans. I'll meet you there."

Jason walked down the hallway. It was relatively wide, allowing him to swerve this way and that, letting his mind wander as to what exactly to do. He decided to get there before they did. He sprinted at full speed towards the end of the corridor. Time seemed...to slow down. Something was on his side; he saw a can of paint thinner, opened, on a ladder. He ripped out his Glock and fired a shot into the ladder's legs. It fell down, pouring the paint thinner everywhere. Jason decided to slide through the window at the end of the corridor. The school was undergoing renovations during the zombie invasion, so incredibly conveniently placed scaffolding was there. Before he holstered the Glock, he fired a quick double tap into the window, still sprinting. He was about four feet to the window. He hit the deck, hard, belly down. He kept going. Sliding through the freakin' window, his calculations were a bit off. The scaffolding was an inch too short. He was falling. Time was at a crawl. He spun around, and tried to grab the edge of it.

He did. But, the scaffolding buckled. Jason's adrenaline was never at this level outside of the battlefield. He pulled himself up. He was panting, sweating, and above all,
    smiling.

Jerry looked at Sarah. She was beautiful, but what really struck him were her eyes. Beautiful blue eyes that sparkled from the moonlight filtering through a high window.
"Jrr is back, he wants to make macaroni,"
Jerry turned to see Grell standing behind him with a vacant expression on his face. His aquamarine eyes also shimmered, reminding Jerry of those pictures of the Great Barrier Reef from that school project he did ages ago. Jerry was jealous. 'My eyes just aren't the right shade, I suppose,' he thought. 'I always thought green was a good color for beautiful eyes, bu--'
"Maxwell hospital is close from here, its a big building and it has some supplies," Grell said, interrupting Jerry's inner monologue.
Then the loudspeaker system reactivated. "Good job. You made the right choice."
Jerry turned to Sarah and said, "Yeah, trust the man threatening to kill us. Good choice."
The voice continued, "...main corridor. Head straight and you will find a cafeteria. It is filled with fun stuff, like bullets, band-aids, and beans. I'll meet you there."
Jerry was silent for a moment, then said, "Band-aids? I'm sorry, but if we really are planning to migrate north, Band-Aids will not be useful, especially if things keep going the way they are." He pointed at the large lump on his forehead and glared at Fitz for a moment. "I think we should--"
A gunshot sounded throughout the school, echoing down the empty corridors loudly, startling most in the group, though Fitz and Grell seemed unaffected. Jerry began to speak again, but two more shots echoed again.
"I'm not sure this is the best place to be, and we need medical supplies for the road ahead of us." Jerry paused, reflecting on what was going on. He gave a small chuckle, audible only to him, and thought, 'I'm beginning to sound like a leader.' Then, to the group, he said, "I think we should take a bus and search the hospital."

Gunshots echoed through the school. 'Guess he doesn't have it blocked off after all,' she thought. Hoping for a break, a minute to sleep, she didn't want to believe the place had been compromised.. but it sounded so.

"I think we should take a bus and search the hospital."

What good would that do, she wondered. Not like any of us are doctors. Or were they? She paused at the cafeteria door.

"NO NO NO NO NO NO! LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN!" Grell said, "A few days now Grell has been putting up a grand barricade and a grand pathway northway, building through the hospital, there are lots of shots for swelling, medicine for other things to, and food...cause Grell is hungry."

Grell immediately established himself as an oddball, especially to Dirk. He rubbed his eyes and temples trying to listen to him before with no success. So after Grell's latest rave, Dirk went behind Kaeila, put his hands on her hips and slowly pushed her through the cafeteria door.

"Yo, we goin' THIS way," he told her softly. "Crazy ass people. What city are we in, anyway?" he asked, his voice still low so only Kaeila can hear him.

Jerry listened to Grell and wondered for a moment whether or not this was helping his argument, then squashed the thought as he realized that, in order to survive so long in his current...state, he would have needed to have a fortress like the one he was speaking of. Dirk and Kaeila began to walk down to the cafeteria.
"I think it's a good idea." Jerry said optimistically. Seeing that no one seemed enthusiastic about the idea, he said, "Look, do we really want to put our lives in the hands of a man who was pointing a gun at our heads a moment ago?"

It took Sarah another few moments to regain her composure. The others had seemed to get into something of a debate over exactly what to do.

"Look, do we really want to put our lives in the hands of a man who was pointing a gun at our heads a moment ago?"

"He was just being cautious." Sarah said through her breaths. A few eyes turned back to look at her as she pushed off the wall, the rifle dangling from her hand.

    "And I'm a doctor."

"The barricade itself has lots and lots of turrest....lots and lots of ammo, collected by me, big wall made by me, big tunnel made by me," Grell said, "Lots of food collected by me, lots and lots of weapons collected by me, there is lots and lots of water.....and I was able to connect the tunnel to the sewers, I know not the cleanest, but its safest....Grell made big pathway northway."
    Grell stared at them.

She was startled by his sudden push, but she couldn't say she was surprised.

"Pheonix," she replied, voice low matching his. "I think."

He was still directing her movement at the hips. They needed to break away for a moment. Dirk was getting a headache from Grell and Fitz.

"Pheonix," she replied, voice low matching his. "I think."

"Phoenix, huh? These people's brain musta fried, yo," he said to her, keeping the low voice. "Yo, you know I aint no asshole or nothin', but these fools is gettin' on my nerves. You don't have to protect them. If they don't act right, we leave 'em."

It wasn't her duty to protect them. She swore only to protect one person so far... but still... how could she leave them? She turned to face him, finally shrugging off his hands. Kaeila didn't speak, didn't know what to respond with.

"You want to leave them all here, we'll leave," she said finally. "But I think it might be handy to have a group around. Take shifts sleeping and guarding, you know?"

    "And I'm a doctor."

Kaeila heard the other woman. "And she's a doctor," she added with a silly, sleep-deprived smile.

"I said lots of turrets and big barricade," Grell said.
Grell looked around and he stared at fairy who was flying limply. Grell watched a few clouds pass.
"When danger comes and time passes..many cannot follow the flow," Grell said, "My favorite is when the world went spinning like a taco."

She turned to face him, looking Dirk right in his eyes. She always had a way of being respectful, yet getting her point across, and Dirk felt it coming. It was something in the way she moved his hands.

"You want to leave them all here, we'll leave," she said finally. "But I think it might be handy to have a group around. Take shifts sleeping and guarding, you know?"

Dirk nodded a bit. He valued her opinion, but he was also a boss with his own decisions to make. He prided himself on being wise, so he would hear her out and make an assessment.

    "And I'm a doctor."

Sarah had spoken. And she said the right thing, too.

Kaeila heard the other woman. "And she's a doctor," she added with a silly, sleep-deprived smile.

Damn, she was right. As soon as he heard Sarah mention she was a doctor, he knew Kaeila would use it on her. He gave a little smirk and nodded.

"Yea, I heard..." he said as he looked Kaeila in the eye again, who looked back at Dirk as if to urge him to say the right thing. A blink broke their stare, followed by Dirk looking down and sighing. "Aiight... we stay wit' the group... for now."

Jerry thought, an idea forming in his mind.
"We could split up," he said at last. "I know that's what gets everyone killed in the movies..." he paused, tjinking about what to say next. "But this isn't a movie. And we still have our common sense, unlike the victims in those movies." He remembered Fitz and added, "Well, most of us..."
"Maybe some of us could volunteer to go to the hospital with Grell while the rest stay here?"

He may have agreed reluctantly, but it may just save his life. She couldn't keep going much longer. Kaeila hadn't slept in two days, and it was clearly coming down on her.

They rejoined the group, and Kaeila looked to the young woman. Too young, surely, to be a doctor. "Doctor?" she asked. "What's your specialty?"

Fitz listened to the conversation between Kaeila and Dirk. That little bastard is actually trying to leave the group? Fitz laughed to himself. If he wants to leave, let him. Then he thought about the right thing to do. He couldn't just leave Dirk hanging. Not to mention Kaeila was stuck to him like glue. He had to do something.

"Yea, I heard..." Dirk said. "Aiight... we stay wit' the group... for now."

"Dats coo' dawg," Fitz said, giving him a pat on the back. "Da zombies roll deep, so we gotta roll deep too, homie. Don't be sweatin' nothin'. I got yo back, b. Dats waz up."

He turned to Kaeila and said in a whisper, "I think he's having difficulty fitting in with the group because he doesn't speak our language. Don't worry about it. I'll make him feel right at home."
