I do appreciate that the Writing Workshop posts don't seem to be searchable via Google but I think it would be even better if you had to be logged in as a member to even view them. While most publications would likely frown on publishing a work that the writer has already published online, some will make exceptions when that work was published in a password protected venue for the purposes of editing and critiquing. Currently the Writing Workshop does not meet that requirement and thus writers would be ill advised to post a work that they would one day like to be published. It wouldn't be good enough for all publishers, but it would increase the writers' options. Is there a downside that I may be missing? Thanks.
but it's still wise to post only excerpts and never any complete piece of work one hopes to see published one day, since it can be read for free and/or copied and posted in less 'secure' places, or sent to anyone anywhere...
Apologies everyone. I didn't click far enough. I visited the page without logging in and could see the Writing Workshop and could even click through to the sub-forums and see the post titles. Had I continued on I would have realized that when I clicked on the actual post it would deny me access. False alarm. Carry on. Nothing to see here.
