What are the little green squares located beneath our profiles? I gather they're our ratings; but how do we earn them? How are they changed? Mine says I'm an "unknown quantity", which I'm pretty sure is a bad thing. Pretty much everyone's says they're on a "distinguished road", and Cogito is the only one I've seen so far who has the rating "will be famous soon enough." How do we earn these? What are the different levels?
Thats the reputation thing. Other members can add to yours with the scale icon below the green squares, next to the report post button. The fact that it is an unknown quantity, I would guess indicates that you have as yet no reputation points.
I personally think ratings always get in the way...it's nice to get kudos, but you never know who is voting for you, and who is voting against you--and some people can vote against you for the very fact they had a bad day...or the story you've written is too close to home... Don't put stock in ratings. And don't worry what people rate you.
Haha, yes. As said, it's part of the reputation system. I explained it in a post a while back, I'll see if I can find it. You can add to other people's reputation by clicking the icon. It's not used much around here, and regardless, it's just for fun. And while we do keep the name of whoever left the reputation hidden (to help prevent quarrels) people can leave comments, sign their name, that sot of thing if they'd like. Again, it's all just for fun.
Aha, found it here. I think I did a halfway decent job of describing it. Also, Ivan, yours isn't "bad." Green is always good. If you have 0 rep it'll turn gray. If you have negative, it'll turn red.
