Merriam-Webster's Unabridged Dictionary lists menswear / men's wear, and womenswear / women's wear. I personally prefer men's wear and women's wear as two words (which is one of the options listed for each word). The menswear and womenswear, as one word, initially come off as men swear / women swear (meaning that men and women utter profanities). My question is, do you agree with the other variations of -wear as listed below? They're not listed in M-W's Unabridged. Which do you prefer below? children's wear, childrenswear, or childrens wear? kids' wear (or should it be: kid's wear or kids wear)? ladies' wear or ladies wear? girls wear, girl's wear, or girls' wear? Thank you. Sent from my iPhone 4S
I'll answer your last question first. Since men and women are plural, you want kids, girls, and ladies. For consistency, I would go with kids', girls', and ladies'. I prefer two words instead of the one. So children's wear is my choice.
