it's been announced that Michael Ceichton, author of 'Jurassic Park', "Sphere" "Congo," "Coma" and "The Andromeda Strain" has passed away. We lost a major voice in the world of writing today....
Prey was definitely a good book..as was "Sphere" and "Jurassic Park" (way different then the movie!!) He also helped pen "Twister" and both wrote and directed "Looker" and "Runaway" "Looker" is something that was wayyyyyyyy ahead of its time; the comments by James Coburn about television during his "John Reston" speech in the last chapter of the DVD is telling unto today...I'll have to copy/paste a ling to it on imdb.com
what a shock!... so young... and so talented... a loss to both the reading and movie-going/tv-viewing world... how sadly ironic that one who trained as a doctor and made the treatment and saving of others' lives the focus of a huge tv fan base for an entire generation should succumb to such a cure-evading disease himself... and not be able to be cloned and brought back to life, as his dinosaurs were!... yet...
cancer definitely sucks...I've lost at least 6 relatives due to various cancers, and soon to be two from alzheimer's....it would be nice if we had cures for some of these....
Deeply sad. Without Michael Crichton, I would've never been graced with the likes of Jurassic Park, Prey and the underappreciated Sphere.
Truly a sad day for me. Michael Crichton is the reason i like to write today. I love all of his books and will truly miss his writing. If it were not for him i would probably just have avoided reading and writing all those years ago. Luckily i picked up the book Jurassic Park, and have since read all of his books. You will be missed MC.
Sad to hear. I'm sure he was a decent fellow and his readers will miss more than a few good works I'm sure he'd have produced. Terry
We're all going to die...I think it's wonderful that he was able to leave behind such a rich body of writing to commemorate his life.
R.I.P. dear Micheal Critchton you will always be remember and your words will forever be stained in our minds. A man may go, but his words will be engraved in stone until that stone crumbles and falls. A man may go, but his words will always be remembered. My favorites of his were Congo, Eaters of the Dead, and Timeline.
