    Most Embarrassing Animal?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Adam Bolander, Mar 12, 2021.

You are the child of a legendary warrior who had the power to turn into a mountain lion. You want nothing more than to follow their footprints, but the day you finally inherit your family's power, the only animal you can turn into is...

What would be more embarrassing, a skunk or a snake? Snakes because of their reputation for lying and deception, or skunks because...well, it's a skunk.

Maybe a snunk or sknake, a combination of the 2? :D

Or maybe a mosquito or flea or louse, or a single-celled amoeba or paramecium?

I vote for a sloth. Or possibly an anteater.

Controversial opinion here but I like snakes. Many of them can be quite dangerous (live threatening), so I don't think a snake would be embarrassing. People are afraid of snakes. They don't laugh at them.

I would go for something that looks uncommon:

    - Blobfish
    - Sloth
    - Pink Fairy Armadillo
    - Aye-aye
    - Naked Mole Rat
    - Babirusa
    - Star-nosed Mole
    - Yeti-Crab
    - Red-lipped Batfish
    - Lowland Streaked Tenrec
    - Indian Purple Frog
    - Shoebill
    - Sea Pig

Human. What an utterly useless skill to have, as a human.
If I must choose between those two, probably a skunk. Though that would still be pretty nice. I mean... Stink attack will give you great flexibility for escape, or clearing out some building/room before a mission involving stealth. What about something less useful, like a south american skunk? (They don't even stink... They're more like big rats.) Here's 2:

How about Penguin? Or like, some small breed of dog? Like a wiener dog. Toad? Rabbit?

I agree with you because it's part of the choices and a no-stink skunk is super embarrassing to turn into.

How about a quahog? They just sit in the sand and wait for somebody to dig them up, cut them in half, and bake them in butter, bacon, and breadcrumbs.

I've decided (until I inevitably change my mind again) to go with a hare. It's not a very intimidating animal, but still has a few assets that she can use in combat. Plus, it gives me the chance to use the "I'm not a rabbit, I'm a hare!" line.

Interesting choice! It's funny how people's perceptions differ, around here hares are often considered quite majestic animals, sometimes even magical, with a lot of folklore associations. I think it's in the eyes, and the way they move, especially during fights in mating season. In fact I just finished reading a book where the folkloric 'evil' took the form of a hare.

Edit: In case you're still thinking about it, can I suggest rat into the mix? They can climb and get in almost anywhere, plus rats being such intelligent, communal animals you could give the character the ability to communicate with real rat colonies in order to bargain with them. Imagine, you could have a whole rat army at your disposal for the price of a couple of wheels of cheese! :p

How about a dung beetle the size of a salad bowl? That would be miserable, walking about in reverse making miserable sculptures. Maybe that's his trait in real life too. He tends to walk backwards and has to stop himself from doing it. He likes to work with his hands. haha!

An Australian platypus, obviously. They look like weird ducks with brown fur, and they seem to waddle as they swim!

A Cicada. You do nothing for massive amounts of time except a small period where you come out and scream at everyone, drop your nasty chitin exoskeleton everywhere, and disappear again.

The tension rises within as you stand upon the precipice of transformation. After tonight, nothing will ever be the same. You silently recount the tales of your forefathers, those whose spirits mirrored bears and elks and lions of the mountain, all beasts of the forests that demanded respect.

The time has come. Power shoots through your veins, turns your vision inside out within a heartbeat, turns your heartbeat inside out within a second. But then the dust settles and the realization hits you. You are not a lion, not a bear, not even a fox, not even a wolf.

You prod your cheeks with wary paws. Rub your fur with horror, feel your long teeth rest upon your tiny lips.

A hamster! Not even a rat!
