Sounds like a short story right? Well, no. There is a killer on the loose in my area, and the last place he was seen was in a town called Rothbury (only 10 miles away from where I live) and so the entire village has been shut down, and a two mile search zone has been set up - however, he is in a car (a black Lexus with a dinted hood) and may have already escaped this search zone. Denizens of Northumberland have been advised to not go out unless absolutely necessary. Two men have been arrested, and have played 'some part' in the shooting spree that has killed one and wounded two others: however, there are reports that these two men have been held hostage at some as yet unknown point in time, however, this is yet to be confirmed. More information as it comes. Here is the headlining story on BBC news as I write this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/10523318.stm
I picked the right time to get out of there. A couple of friends have been keeping me up to date with events up there, and it isn't right cracking, to say the least.
From what I've been reading, murder is a bit light. Psycho killer would be more appropriate. I mean, he's taunting the police, for God's sake!
He's also saying he does not want to be caught alive ... so yeah, your description is rather fitting. Update; the two men have been charged with being accessories to murder, and there are sightings of him all over the Rothbury area (and around Northumberland) though none have been confirmed. He has also declared a one-man war against Northumberia Police.
Hey, I lived down the street from a psychotic murderer for awhile. He beat my friend, her friend, and her parents all to unrecognizable bits with a hammer and lived in their house with their dead bodies just hanging around the place until the police came looking for the missing people. Fun fun. I hope they find your guy and I hope they kill him.
Actually, my friend did meet this guy through the internet. He was from Cali, and they started dating and he came down here to visit and murdered eveerryyyone.
Hope you're coping okay, Lemex. I'm so glad I'm not in that area. Good luck to the police, let's hope they catch him soon.
Update: armed police, members of the military, and police snipers are now in the Rothbury area, and appear to be closing in on him. It's been revealed that Derrick Moot (the fugitive) is armed with a shotgun, and he knows the area very well. He has spent the last 3 nights in the dense Northumbrian woodland in hiding and since two days ago, he has had no contact with the outside world. This is rather like the plot of an action movie.
They've found a tent he's been staying in, that happened about an hour ago. They're also dispatching police from the N.I. and Wales.
This man scares the crap out of me. Just get him and lock him away, for god's sake. The police searching/confronting him are so f/cking brave...
Yeah, it looked at though it would be a peaceful ending. Negotiators communicated with him for hours, but then he just went prone and shot himself, rambling about how no one cares about him.
Steroid abuse in his past, a fractured upbringing and recent problems. I reckon he's had a psychotic break. As much as he's a killer, he is also to be pitied. I don't think he was fully in control, and what he's shouted at the end suggests as much. Tragic on all sides, this one.
I know I'll be in the minority thinking that, and I know why people will hate him because of what he's done.
Hate is toxic. Hate is what drove him. I simply have no sympathy for him, and I'm glad it's over. I won't waste energy wringing my hands over the tragedy of his life, nor will I waste it on rage. I simply choose to let him vanish from relevance, and soon enough, from memory.
I have to say, the performance of the police throughout this has been exemplery. They even consulted with the local people to ask what they wanted in order to feel more secure, and on their request put an armed police guard on the school. I'm sorry he's dead. Any unnecessary death is a shame, and I would have liked to see him stand trial for his crimes.
Agreed, Matt. I can't help but feel this is a bit tragic, and I feel sorry for his family. Even still, the man was a psycho, and I wish he'd gone to trial. Matt knows how nervous all this has made me; I couldn't sleep last night until he'd gone round checking all the doors and windows were locked, and even then I was convinced someone was lurking about. It's shocking the effect this stuff can have on people. I can't say I feel very safe anymore, with all these horrible shootings going on towards innocent members of the public.
Actually, believe it or not, practically every member of his family wanted him dead. This lead to him putting them on his "list".
