    I'm debating about whether Benedict, the character in Frog, will even speak at all. That is, no dialog; it is only the MC's thoughts. That might be better than so few lines as to seem strange.

    I think that might work. People use it, and it could reveal that he doesn't like to speak or have a speaking problem or something. If you ever watched the movie, "The Sandlot 2," Brian, a character in that movie who lost his father, hasn't spoke throughout the movie until one of his friends decided to drop out of the Sandlot team. That's when it grabbed his attention and said "You're not the only one who should speak." You can have him not speaking if it suits you.
