"Still on" is not correct. He was driven off at Age of Ultron's release then came back. He wasn't there the whole time.
Age of Ultron had so much more potential than we got to see in the finished product. Iron Man: A Hulk: B Iron Man 2: C Thor: A Captain America: A Avengers: A Iron Man 3: A Thor 2: C Captain America 2: A Guardians of the Galaxy: B Avengers 2: C Ant-Man: B Civil War: A Doctor Strange: B
@BayView it's true—we broke Joss Whedon I felt so bad for him after the whole Age of Ultron fiasco He gave up directing any further marvel films, left twitter, and I thought we'd lost him for a bit
I'm completely unaware of the incident, but... he seems fine. Really. He'll be okay. (What was the fiasco? Were people threatening to murder him and rape him and making up video games where players beat him up?) ETA: Okay, I read http://variety.com/2016/film/news/joss-whedon-avengers-age-of-ultron-tribeca-1201756155/ and http://collider.com/joss-whedon-marvel-exit-avengers-age-of-ultron/ and... I don't get the connection. Was Age of Ultron criticized for being too racially inclusive, or not inclusive enough, or...?
... I just thought he left Marvel because he was bored from not coming up with his own characters in a long time.
You take that back! Guardians and Ultron should be A's! Also, I preferred the second thor to the first myself. And Doctor Strange over civil war.
Oh, no, Whedon is a pillar of inclusion and (actually, majority of films & series I can actively recall are a primarily white cast) particularly empowering female characters He just got thrashed by the producers/studios demanding things of him, denying him things necessary for telling his story, and eventually by the audiences who went insane because somehow his depiction of Black Widow was misogynist or something ridiculous after the violent backlash, I thought he was gonna go full hermit However, I don't think he will ever regret trying to write (brilliant) female characters even though people freaked out on him this one time. I just think it was all too much from the pressure and backlash for him to cope in the public eye. I don't agree that it's a lesson against working towards diversity or representation or creating good characters of any/every age, race, gender, sex, orientation, et cetera I just thought it was really sad it happened to him, because I've loved his contributions from the past few decades
