Discussion in 'Character Development' started by yellowm&M, Aug 13, 2008.

Ok, so i'm trying to write a story, however i'm having issues coming up with names for the characters involved. I have names for most but a few i'm jsut stumped. Any suggestions?

I too use many baby name generators for character names. I usually just look through lists of names that begin with a desired letter and then find a few that I like. I normally come up with ten to twenty names for a certain character before choosing a name.

I try to go for meaning in names mostly. I have a character named Alexander Martin because I want people, if they take the time, to know that he is a great warrior. And that is what both those names mean

These two sites are my Bible's for anything to do with naming:

    http://www.thinkbabynames.com/
    http://www.babynames.com/

I tend to name my character with a certain meaning, so I type the meaning I want into the search engine and see what pops up. If I like I name, I tend to use it. Otherwise I see if I can change a few letters around to make it more appropriate.

These days I frequently use baby names books. Before I stumbled over those though, I used to look in my local telephone directory for interesting names. (Don't laugh).
