I was a bit concerned about this, which is why I ideally don't want to be cramming the last however many words on the 30th. I'd want to finish a couple of days early if I can.

I validated my word count today and got my goodies. Turns out my Openoffice only missed 5 words from the official word count.

I'll still be writing after the month is over, since I'm nowhere near the end *sigh*

A little less than 10k and I will be able to validate.

Congrats to those who have validated already! I hate you. I kid, I kid, I'm just jealous. ;P

I'm 8k behind and got a load of uni work to do so I'm not sure I'll finish in time unless I don't sleep or something.

Please concentrate on what you have achieved. I am pleased to have done it but I wouldn't have been so happy about it without you Eunoia :) Thanks to your support I now have a clearer perspective on my work and my confidence is back - without that I would never have written anything the past couple of days - instead I wrote several thousand.

Every story is different the one I am writing is easy to write and is flowing easy has done from first line. Others take more effort and take longer. You have a real life and despite that have accomplished so much.

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

You're welcome to my support any time, Elgaisma! :)

But yes you're right. It's a good idea to focus on the amount I have written, rather than what I haven't.

as soon as you go over 10,000 that is more than my university dissertation was to put it in perspective. It is a huge achievement :) 30,000 I think is the word count for a PhD (could be wrong - long time since it was on my radar). These are intelligent well educated people and what universities think is a high amount of words.

I love NaNo it works for my writing style - but it has annoyed me the lack of support for those that are working and doing the best they can. For some writers 2000K is a massive achievment.

    Woah, yeah.

I've never written anything anywhere near this length, what with being more a short story writer, so it's an achievement whether I finish in time or not.

yeah now you know you could do a research degree lol :) I am so chuffed everyone of this thread has done so much better than normal - has your story got a long way to go?

I reckon I am about halfway through mine - I need to start putting everything back together and write a scene with Socrates and Nate doing something fun for the end. I ended my last story with them dancing round their bedroom in their pants (Nate's were on his head). Not sure whether to just pinch it or come up with something else - maybe iceskating together or something.

Haha, that's a cool ending dancing round their bedroom in their pants.

My story is drawing to a close, so I reckon I might be able to neatly end it by 50k, although I may have to drag out the ending or go back and add more to the story earlier on.

Well I am looking forward to it :)

Maybe they could do skinny dipping this time - ok ideas for something stupid they can do together? Needs to indicate, cute, fun, confident, silly relationship.

Love the idea that they are one hundred and thirty this time lol Last time I wrote something like this for them they were only twenty nine.

I figure I am about halfway through my story at 40k or 41k(to lazy to check)

Though since I finished a flashback part of my story I really don't know whats next. I got a few ideas and scenes playing out. I am sure I am going to ressurect my main characters older sister. The whole Blood Temple is rather angry at my MC... especially their Goddess who is fueding with another Goddess over her soul. Not sure why exactly, I just know both of them want her. *shrugs*

So I guess I do have a rough idea as to what comes next.

But I am excited because this will be the longest story I have finished. My last years NaNoWriMo reached 50k, but I wasn't done and haven't touched it. The longest story I have finished is roughly a 25k word Joan of Arcadia fanfic. But this one I will finish I can just feel it!

WHAT. My Open Office was about 700 words shy of the validator's count by the time I was done! Open Office thinks I wrote about 51,000 words compared to what I just scraped by with to get my win on the site!

    Fie on you! *shakes fist*

    LOL...
    I was lucky, then...
I don't know how the same software can miss 5 words in one document and 700 in the other, crazy thing o_O
I wonder if Word is more reliable...

Not really, but I did find that it works upwards of the validator. One year I was struggling but also using Word and so even though it said 48,000 I still won... Felt a bit guilty for that, but I figured it could go either way. :p

(as it did to me this year, though not by 2,000 :p)

^Wow, who da thought? Hee, that's technology for ya :)

EDIT: I'm one of those unknown few who WON'T finish NaNoWriMo. I feel very disappointed in myself and upset that this was a great opportunity and time for me to write, and I didn't. But with work and other circumstances, I just couldn't keep up :| I'll still continue to work on my novel though. Rest assured.

For me, however, Nano wasn't as freeing as I thought it would be. When it came time for me to sit down and write, I couldn't come up with the details and etc. I blanked. And I lost my motivation.

But kudos for those of you who did finish! I applaud you - and envy you :) Great job my fellow wrimos!

I think it has to do with Word and OpenOffice counting the words differently. I noticed that Word will count periods as words and other such things.

Though I think the NaNo Validator does the same thing, atleast it did for me.

OpenOffice probably doesn't count those as words. So it doesn't properly match up.

    Just a guess.

I wrote enough words and a bit more for today... except it wasn't for my NaNonovel. I felt the need to write a fanfic.

hmm... you think it be cheating if I just lumped those words into my NaNo novel anyways? :p I mean I could easily turn it into some sort of dream of one of my characters!

    ...

    yeah I know i probably shouldn't. lol

Eh, one year I didn't end up writing a novel because I scrapped it halfway and I just added up all the fiction I wrote that month - got my highest word count as well. :p Something like 80,000 words or more, just adding up my sum total of Things I Wrote In November.

If you haven't edited the document since you last validated it (I think you can still keep adding to your word count anyway), just compare the word count on the site with the word count in Open Office.

Mine was only 4 words (OpenOffice) which accounts for the title and name at the top.

Finally caught up with an extra 700 or so words ahead! Seems like whenever I fall behind I can catch up with enough words to spare.

I am really loving my characters, especially a sentient sword one of my characters carries. Though to behonest my characterization seems to be lacking. My 'I am out for myself' main character seems to be more caring then I would have liked. My FMC still seems rather weak. But atleast I now know why she has been called Mother Katherine. I honestly had no idea where I was going with that when I first had a character call her that.

Oh well stuff I can work on in the editing phase. :)
