    Need a word

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by jettdialer, Feb 12, 2018.

I need a word for the motion hands perform over a crystal ball. Is there a direct term for this? Or is there any other creative noun that does this? It's like a wafting expanding and contracting motion.

Don't think there's anything precise/specific enough to fit your bill.

Charming? Conjuring? Or maybe divining... yes, divining would do it for me.

Waving? That's the word I'd use to describe it. Waved back and forth.

Waving was the first thing that came to mind for me, too.

If you wanted to get flowery with it, you could compare the motion to caressing or coaxing a vision from the crystal ball.

Wafting in an expanding and contracting motion could be described as "undulation". It's not a word related specifically to using a crystal ball, but it does describe the motion you're talking about here, as well as the movement of several kinds of jellyfish.
