New introductions seem to be in order

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Prophetian, Jan 12, 2009.

    Hello again!

About a month ago I registered here, made a nice little post in these here forums and now someone told me that the thread had dissapeared! :O (gasp!)

Actually, that may have been a good thing. At the time I was in my exams, so I might have been blabbering alot.

So here it is, Introduction 2.0

The name is Alexander, although I am going by the name of Zander. But wait, around here i'm Prophetian (awesome song btw).

I hail from Belgium! A great place to live, especially in times of crisis! 'cause no matter how much it comes in the news and how bad everyone messes things up... Life goes on and nothing really happends :D

The reason I came onto these here forums was because I needed a bit of help really. Ive been working on a story idea (short story, novel, who knows?) that has been in my mind for over a year. And that idea actually followed from something that was in my mind for an even longer time!
Because these things came and went in my childhood, I payed no attention to it at first. But now I'm like "heh, this stuff in my head is pretty good. How about I just try and keep focussed on this stuff and make something out of it?"

Gathering information and taking notes... Making plots, (you know.. The works!) I have basic information to do like 7 books! But I don't want that. I'd just be happy if I have 1 short story with my name under it that is worth the read.

My writing (these days) are much inspired by music. No i'm not taking lyrics and using them in my tales (hah, that'd be rich), but rather I made my own story using music. With song titles as working titles and such. Who knows I might still end up using them (some of em are just that good).

Much of my displeasure, I once made a "webcomic" if you will (stickfigures and bad humour aren't what I call a webcomic, but I have to call it something other then sh*t* :p. Perhaps i'll share it someday. Who knows... Torture anyone?

But god.. I'm totally on in a rant again.

    Well that's me.

Give me another warm welcome, I know I had one before :p

Bet you thought you had become an 'unperson' there for a bit, aye?

    Welcome, again, to the forums!

Hello Zander, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
