    new member looking for collaborator

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Karla House, Aug 27, 2007.

Hello everyone! When I found this site I thought it might be a good place to meet new interesting people with whom I might be able to find a song writing collaborator. I'm pretty new at the whole song writing thing; been writing amatuerly for about a year and a half. I recently read "How to Write a Hit Song" by Molly-Ann Leikin, and found it to be full of some great writing tips. Before reading her book, I realized my songs had no structure. I also have no instrumental ability but, I do have a decent singing voice and am able to come up with a tune in my head to go along with my lyrics. I'm very easy to get along with and am open to suggestions as well as criticism when needed. My songs have so far had a country music (love songs) flair to them even though that's not my favorite type of music to listen to. Must be the "country girl" coming out of me. So if there is anyone out there who might be interested in chatting with me, I would love to hear from you. I wish everyone here good luck with whatever it is you are aspiring to be in life.

Hello Karla, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

I'm not much of a lyricist, myself, and I'm not sure how likely you are to find collaborators here. However, you may find that reviewing other peoples' lyrics will give you some insight into your own songwriting efforts.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Welcome to the Writing Forums! I hope you enjoy it here. I've never taking song writing as a serious matter. I never enjoyed songs written by other people, instead it was inborn habit to do 'my thing'. I'd sing my own songs, dance my own way, cook my own way, and naturally, instead of reading books I wrote my own. So, it's more of a part of being me to sing and write songs. So, it's okay if you're new to it, as long as it comes from the heart it works. So have fun and do ask for help if needed.

Once again absent for the wknd and voilĂ  an influx of new talented members - I hope all is to your liking. If you have any questions, let us have them, and we'll see what we can do - for now, see you around the site! Sadly however I can't offer my services for your endeavour due to other time-consuming but no less worthy constraints.

    Hey hey
I write songs too (though there are none on here yet) and I don't believe they have to have the whole v1 c v2 c m8 b c c type structure because that structure can come from the music (most pop songs are exempt from this though). You do need a chorous though.
To me songs are just poems with a tune so write it from the heart. You've got to pay attention to all different types of songs for inspiration and different ways of structuring things.

Be sure to ask about anything you need help with.
