Hey hi! My name is Elle, I am 15 years old and one of my hobbies is writing. I found this website through Google after a friend told me that I should join a writing forum, because I needed some suggestions and feedback on some things. For example, I am currently writing my first full length book. Now because this is my first time writing something like this, I would like a lot of advice and feedback. I will be posting another thread explaining this book in more detail, but for now I would like to say one thing; Honesty is important to me. And I obviously do not know anyone on here, and I see that as a good thing. Let me explain why. If you know a person well and they happen to ask you for advice in something, chances are you're gonna tell them something you think they would most likely want to hear. Contrary to what would happen if you ask someone you do not know well at all. That is part of the reason why I joined this website. I WANT HONEST FEEDBACK! Please do not try to spare my feelings. If something I am writing is horrible, say it. I am open to any and all criticism. I tend to not get offended easily. Lastly, I would just like say thanks for making me feel welcome and I hope this will be a great experience!
thou must give 2 detailed reviews to others if thy wish to progress further to posting your own. welcome though~ may we have peace, peace, and perfect peace
Hello Ellie, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
So I am still very new here and I barely know my way around this site. Where do I find pieces to review?
Hi Slipknot663Korn! Welcome to the WF! Firstly, go to the main page (writing forums) scroll down until you see the category called "The Review Room". You will now see a whole bunch of other forums which branches of into other specific sections. -Short story, poetry, lyrics, scripts, Fan Fiction, novels etc.- "The Review Room" is the only section/part of the forum which you may review other people's work or post your own stories (You must critique first). If you have any further questions, please report this to the adminstrators or moderators. Nice to meet you! - Jack
