^-- (Two different questions being asked. You can select more than one answer!!) You may have noticed already that we have some new smilies. I'm trying to bring in features that the members will appreciate and give a little more spirit of fun to the place. Here's the deal: Daniel said he was cool with new smilies, but he doesn't want the forum to be "one of those forums that has a million smilies" and I agree with him. I've brought in a few that are even animated that are at least a little related to our venue of writing, and ones I have seen members make use of in the more difficult "insert picture" mode of making a smiley happen. What we have so far are these: For those who are fans of the originals, I am able to create categories of smilies so that when you hit the smiley button in the reply box you get tabs at the bottom for the different categories. This could be used to leave the original line up as the default smilies (the way they used to be), and you hit the tabs for the newer and more tricked-out versions. There are two different questions being asked in the poll, so you can select more than one answer.
Whoa... that's a lot of smilies. I voted for less but checking out the bottom tab, I take that backâworks for me. I'd really rather not see them shifted into sub categories in order to allow for more. The only other I can think of is the 'flogging a dead horse' one but, let's face it, few members are shy in calling out when that's the case, anyhoo.
Either we think a lot more alike than I thought we did, or I'm just a pervert. Could be both, but not neither. I posted in another thread we need the face palm one and then I'll be happy...sorta.
@jannert Ah, but from his/hers (the emoticons) viewpoint, you're the one who appears skewed. All depends on the POV, doesn't it.
I see that my vote made 7 in all. When I went to school, that was considered "not statistically significant".
For those of you voting for more options, which ones?? Um, and allow me to caveat, I would be very reluctant to add smilies that could be used for easy visual poke-funnerie at other members. Just putt'n that out there.
No. A number of smilies have been suggested to me through PM - and a few we even chatted over in the Mod Chat before any of this came to be - that we questioned or spoke about due to their snark factor. The standard smiley was even brought up as a concern in the Mod Chat when an example of another forum was presented where this smiley was used to such an extreme of dickery that the admin removed it, even though it's a pretty basic smiley. ... and, no. No sex smileys.
You can find them in uncounted places across the internet to include deviantart and you make them by copying their URL and using the insert image function instead of the smiley button. ETA: The smiley button is really just a shortcut for the above-described process.
I usually find a lot of them from http://www.smileyvault.com/thumbnails.php?album=35&page=3 It has a 'search album' feature for when you are looking for a specific one.
Not the link function, but the insert picture function. The one next to the smiley button. I prefer deviantart. The results are more creating.
Right click on the smiley and click on copy image url and then copy and paste that into the photo option here.
I like the tomato dodge, running into a brick wall, cat fight, and clapping. Can't find the better tomato dodge. I'd say to add roll on the floor laughing but maybe you're afraid people will use it to laugh at people instead of at their joke.
At first I didn't get the dead horse one - I thought that's mean, now I get it. But my fave is the cat fight.
