    New word problem

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Puppet121, Nov 20, 2008.

I'm trying to make a new word for an elite human that is one word. So I came up with an "Elitian". Should I come up with something different or stick with it. If I stick with is how should I inform the reader how to saw it? Would I make one of those crazy pronunciation things. It's basically like saying: l-e-shen

If you get what I'm going at please help.

What about Megas. Because they are megalomaniacs if they are evil. People could relate to Megas because the prefix is familiar, such as megaman, which seems to mean great man, super human.

The German word uber is also well known. Ubers.

I actually like the way Elitians feels on my tongue. I pronounce it ee lee shee ans

fyi, anyone with a decent grasp of english would know how to pronounce any of those suggestions... and if they didn't, it wouldn't really matter, would it?

Why not just stick to the "Elites."

Nilfiry's suggestion is by far the simplest--The Elites. 'Nuff said, and really not hard to wrap your brain around. And even your original idea--Elitians--isn't that hard to "get", though you might want to make it obvious that the word came from "elite", and then people would have no problem pronouncing it.

That said, I quite approve Narcissians (or, to perhaps simplify, Narcissans). That would make a lot of sense if your Elitians are megalomaniacal or just stuck-up. Context: Narcissus, in Greek Myth, thought himself to be perfect and fell in love with his reflection.

Of course, everyone probably knew that. Sorry, I just like to lecture.

What's an elite human? An elitist human, or a human that is elite (in ability)?
