Hi, I’m new, hence the forum and thread title. I know, don’t post my work for review right away. I’m just here to soak it all in anyhow.

I was so tempted to fill this entire post with internet-speak and about 500 colors and smilies. Maybe even some hieroglyphics for effect. But, the rules are pretty specific and laid out sternly enough to keep me in line.

A bit about me – I’m 26 years old, married with 2 kids. I’ve held various analyst positions over the past 5 years, currently I’m a Market Research Analyst for a publishing company. We bought a house and moved to the suburbs a few years ago. Our neighbors are basically our polar opposites. It’s made for some interesting situations and conversations. I tend to live in my head a lot these days.

So, for fun, I like laughing. No really, it’s great. Try it – just laugh out loud wherever you are right now. Doesn’t that feel good? Of course I also like things that make me laugh, like Bill Maher and inside jokes and that one time in Tijuana with the… Well, never mind about that.

I follow politics, science, pop culture, current events and your mom (j/k, please don’t kick me out). For the past 8 years or so I’ve read 90% non-fiction, but recently decided to re-embrace fiction. I also decided to embrace Perez Hilton, TV, and Twitter. Maybe I feel like I can relax for the first time in 8 years. I definitely feel a rant coming on but I’ll save it for the water cooler.

Other stuff… Music is cool, I like that too. Modest Mouse is it for me though. I sowed my wild seeds with other bands, my heart and soul belongs to Modest Mouse. My favorite movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, favorite TV shows are Dexter and Weeds, favorite artist is Banksy, favorite author is Hunter S. Thompson, future second husband is Seth Rogen, I suck at conclusions if you hadn’t guessed already… Hope to learn a thing or two about that in the forums.

    THE END.

Hello Télor, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
