Hey, everyone! My name is Larissa, I'm from Brazil (but, despite what almost everybody thinks, Spanish is NOT my native language) and I've been writing pretty much everything that comes to my mind since the age of six - and I'm 16 now. Most people say I should be a journalist in the future, but I've got my mind on Medicine and it isn't leaving anytime soon - but I'll keep on writing regardless of my profession, because it's a big part of me. At the moment, I've just finished my first novel in Portuguese (a 215-page, Meg-Cabot-inspired teenage novel, only it is set in a magical land and all characters are magical beings, such as vampires, angels, werewolves and some creatures I made up), and it's being read by some trustworthy people before I make some alterations and begin trying to publish it. Whoosh, I think that's it Quite big for a "hello". I tend to get excited xD See y'all!
Hey Larissa. I'm Hedge, and I tend to say y'all, too. I'm incredibly impressed to see you write a 215 MS Word-page novel. The first story I did was 100 pages less. Anyways, what influences your writing, and what do you like to read? Any music preferences? Let me know when you post some of your work on the boards and I'll be sue to check it out. See you around.
Hello Larissa, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thanks, people! Cogito, I'll be sure to read all I'm supposed to before I start posting, thanks for the heads up =] Hedgehog, I'm a huge music fan - but my all-time favorite is Nickelback. My favorite writers, well, most of them are Brazilian, but among the foreigners are Meg Cabot, Sophie Kinsella, Tess Gerritsen... I'll be posting something soon ^^ It's just a bit hard, because 80% of my writing is in Portuguese. Oh well =]
