Probably because as soon as something gets tagged as a Trope® the vast majority of people (ie the unwashed masses, the plebs) think that means it's soooo passe now, or at least it gives them a target for their 'I'm so over it now' or 'that was soooo last decade!' fantasies of superiority. I mean come on man, it's current freaking year!! Get with the new program man (aka on the new bandwagon that makes us feel like we belong to some important movement!)
