A couple of updates:

1)Because this is a writing forum, and I should be relying more on my descriptive storytelling skills, I will no longer post pictures in any post on the game thread. I will only post pictures from now on the discussion thread here, where it will complement the other info that I give. Also, to help you guys better visualize my galaxy, there will be some more info dumping to follow, beware.

2)There is a very good chance that we may be joined by another player, and at least three others have expressed interest and said they would like to join. If they do join this late, having them join as boot officers may not complement the story with the way things are going now, considering the current mission and all. So, from now on, all new joiners will have the freedom to join as any class/type of their choosing, even rogue-type characters, just no Marauders, cos Marauders are the bad guys.

 

Business of course, buying hawaiian shirts, renting ATVs and kayaks, heck, I even had to pay for a camping permit.

Who is asking about joining us?

 

I happen to be one of those latecomers. I'm not exactly new to the forums, I just haven't posted very often.

 

I've read over the thread, and I like what I see. There are some very interesting characters.

I've just sent my character to Jon for review. Hopefully everything's kosher. I look forward to joining the game.

EDIT: this may sound like a major revision, but it won't impact the game very much as it is and won't affect any of the characters, or shouldn't. I was talking with a friend of mine today and realized that the game is taking place entirely too close to the present, so I decided to move the game forward, a century forward. This will hopefully give a little more time in my future for the terraforming of planets and massive interstellar wars between extrasolar planets. So instead of being in the twenty third century we'll be in the twenty fourth, in the twenty three hundreds. Cheers.

Also, one of the Athena's top secret weapons systems, the Aegis defense system, I have down as being designed by an Earth based corporation, I'm changing that so that the Centaurians gave the Athena both her experimental beam weapon and defensive system. That is all, standby for an expansion for Ceres, hopefully I'll have it done by tonight.

Here is my character.

Name: Adam "Dogface" Dennet
Gender: Male
Age: 36

Appearance: Dogface received his nickname for the obvious reasons. I mean, he doesn't resemble a dog; he's just ugly. His nose appears to have been broken on more than one occasion, and his left ear is severely deformed. These, along with his other scars, are badges earned from brawls both won and lost in nearly equal measure. Aside from some nasty scaring, Adam is otherwise normal. There is a moto tattoo on his upper right arm that he claims to regret, but refuses to have removed. He stands a little shy of six feet, and weighs approximately one hundred and ninety pounds. There isn't a lick of fat on him due the physical demands of his current profession. Apparently, his brown hair hasn't met a comb in years, and his beard is never shorter than a five-o-clock shadow.

Personality: Adam's always been a little abrasive. It's not that he wants to be a jerk, his brain just works a bit different. Most people need some time to acclimatize to his personality, but once this is accomplished they tend to remain friends for a long time.

Background: Adam joined the UEAF when he was twenty-two years old. He went UA when he was twenty-five. He had one day decided that he was too much of a free spirit to remain in the service. Adam spent several years on the lam, and tried his hand at many jobs. Around five years ago, Adam came to Ceres and found a job he could live with. That job is mining. During the three years he served in the military, he was under the command of one TO1 Gunther, otherwise known as Pappy. (The guy couldn't have been a day over thirty, so Adam never understood the reasoning behind the nickname.) If everyone in his chain of command was as respectable as Pappy, Dogface probably wouldn't have gone UA in the first place. You'll never hear him admit that, however.

I think moving the date up an extra hundred years is a good idea, I support the changes.

 

Ceres

Ceres, as the largest object in the asteroid belt, became a major point of interest to the first commercial space prospectors. While it is the smallest of all the dwarf planets in Sol, it was large enough to support permanent habitats and sustain sizable populations with it's extensive deposits of ice and precious minerals. In the years following the bestowment of its Commonwealth status among the other worlds, Ceres is slightly impoverished. The concentration of wealth seems disproportionately high among the descendants of those who exploited Ceres' wealth in resources early in its colonization.

Capital - Piazzi

Banner - The banner of Ceres depicts a woman holding a stalk of grain (the goddess of agriculture, after whom the dwarf world Ceres is named) on a green background. Off to the left is a crest in the shape of laurels and on her right is the symbol for the planet Ceres.

Economy - The economy of Ceres in based almost exclusively on extensive mining, especially ice mining, which was the backbone of the early spacing days of the Sol system.

Government - Like most bodies of the Sol system Ceres is an autonomous member of the Commonwealth. It's government is generally isolationist, fiscally conservative, and the people seem content with maintaining the difficult balance between resource management and the harsh living conditions in the belt.

Places - notable locations on Ceres, and especially the craters from which the first cities were built, are named after people and places associated either with its discoverer, Giuseppe Piazzi, or people and places associated with the goddess Ceres.

My character will be a member of the team, but he's not in the service anymore. In fact, he prefers to stay away from military types. You guys are an exception because you're with Pappy.

 

OK, so I assume you'll be meeting us at Ceres?

 

That's correct. My character currently works as a miner on Ceres. Hopefully Jon will post my profile on the first page soon so everyone can find it easily.

 

Done! The plan is to get us to Ceres, Wolf has a lead for the team there and Dogface will be part of the Peanut gallery.

To visualize Ceres, or at least the neighborhood we're in, imagine Venusville from Total Recall or just about any street corner in Frank Miller's Hard Boiled

Think dirty, industrial, urban, seedy. The type of place where you wanna shower immediately afterwards.

 

I have some ideas for the suits that the miners on Ceres might wear. There like a combination of the suit from Dead Space and this experimental skydiving suit that I found.

The skydiving suit is intended for extremely high jumps, and as a possible means of emergency reentry for astronauts.
I know that the miners aren't expecting to reenter any atmospheres anytime soon; I just think that the suits they wear could be multipurpose. (The suits also look neat.)

 

whoa! that's pretty awesome.

yeah, because they live on an asteroid, and mining is very dangerous (they may open up gas pockets or threaten to collapse a tunnel) they should wear some special suits, even environmental type ones in case of depressurization. Good idea.

I really like the skydiving suit concept though, like the Orbital drop shock troops (ODST) of Halo and the sky drop suits in the new Star Trek movie

 

Con permiso, I may show up occasionally in the story. Not military, but I lake a living as a rock rat (asteroid miner). I may hear some things, maybe tell a few tales. Some of them might even be the truth. Hah!

Personality: Depends who you ask. I've been called lotsa things. Some have called me a thief 'n a liar - most of them is missing some teeth. Some've called me a ragin' bitch - those are my friends. Ain't no one calls me a pushober, though.

Appearance: About 5'10", dark skinned, short straight black hair, wiry build, and my eyes are up HERE, dirtbag! The scar? That's my business.

You're that bitch that tried to steal my bag when I first got on this rock. I thought that was you. I didn't let you take my s***, so you took suma my teeth. You're lucky you're a lady.



Think our characters should know one another? I've been on Ceres for about five years; that's plenty of time to make amends.

(You have never met her. And she's a solo rock rat. She has her own mining ship, and she earns enough of a living prospecting astroids to keep her in food, water, fuel, and oh-two. And to set a little aside for bad times.)

Sounds good. I was just throwing some ideas out there.

 

I would be honored if you joined us Cog, and yes, solo people are cool, prospectors/rock rats need to live too.
