Hi all. I'm Susan, a nursing student who has an old undergrad degree in music. I've an intense desire to help others, and am fascinated by child development, the birthing process and the nursing years. It's awe inspiring when one regards that the female body is capable of sustaining human life for up to two years or more when you consider gestation and the weaning years. When I do write, they are generally poems to my children, chronicalling emotions of motherhood. They are my muses. When reading I adore historic romances, and some days am convinced I was an anthropologist in a former life. Hello. I look forward to "meeting" you all.
Hello Susan, Welcome to the Creative Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Writing Workshop before you try to post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Writing Workshop, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Writing Workshop, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. We also impose a two-week waiting period before you may post writing for critique, to give you time to become familiar with what is expected and how the site operates. The Writing Workshop forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Writing Workshop forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Thank you for the welcome and for the advice. My current project, I have little intention of publishing on line at all, until I know what its possibilities are. If my small circle think it's meritable I may post an excerpt for advice, but not until then. I'm scouring the site looking for ideas on plot development at the moment. Thanks again!
Hello!! Welcome to the Writing Forums! (You've a great career choice, I've decided that when I graduated I wanna be a pediatric oncologist. And MUSIC IS TOTALLY AWESOME! both would be great choices!)
That's quite a noble ambition Jayy. Are you pursuing med school? I was at one point, but with three kids, day care alone was killing me. I couldn't justify graduating near 40 with 300K in debt. I figure I can work my way through the ranks and become a nurse practitioner. I want to be in general practice pediatrics and I can do everything I want to do, including diagnostics as a practitioner. I did, however, just find out that NP will require a PhD in my state soon, so that has me somewhat bummed. But right now, I am between classes so I'm going to focus on artistic endeavors for a few days.
Hey there susan! So you're in nursing? I wanted to work for aged care but right now im stuck between two jobs which is martial arts and resturaunt joint. My ideal job would probably be writing and martial arts, but aged care was one job id love to do sometime.
Hi Hope, I'm actually still in school for nursing. I work as an EMT currently for an interfacility transport company (non emergency, but sometimes our patients like to scare us so we keep our skills sharp). Honestly, that's the one field I don't think I could do. To know I will eventually lose every patient to death is kind of sad for me. Plus, going in and out of nursing home facilities every day, I see the neglect that takes place. I'd end up going on a rampage of reform, and probably hurting a few people who don't take my reform seriously in the process.
