next Doctor in Doctor Who. Opinions? I think he's a bit old-although John Partwee was older-for the role but we shall see. Might bring a bit more mature Doctor or one even more bitter and mildly sadistic.
He fits the original mould a bit better than the current pretty boys for those if us who watched the original series when it was airing new.
I am unfamiliar with him, but am intrigued... I will be spending some time looking him up on youtube. He definitely isn't another Matt Smith... thank god.
He was the father of the family Tennat saved in the 'Fires of Pompei.' He was a WHO doctor in World War Z and has played a foul mouthed political official in some BBC comedy. If you look up http://imdb.com he's been in a ton of stuff. I too am unfamiliar with him so I'll have to look him up. It'll be curious to see how the fanboys and the forums react.
According to BBC News, he is the same age (55) William Hartnell was when he started portraying the very first Doctor. Jon Pertwee was 51 when he took on the role as the third Doctor. Pertwee was one of the most energetic Doctors, even taking on enemies with "Martian jujitsu". And they're all younger than I am.
I think he is a fantastic choice! I can't wait to see his persona as The Doctor! I mean Tennant will always be my favorite but I think this Doctor will be more mature and witty. Plus he's Scottish, so that's a big plus. ...but still not ginger, poor Doctor.
Great choice. I think he'll bring a darker persona to the role. But I must admit, a part of me wanted either Tennant again or a woman. Only once Peter came out on stage, all my feelings changed. A truly good choice, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the Christmas special.
Remember how Eccleston and Tennant were quite dark and intense and angry? And then Matt Smith was a bit more fluffy and light - so I'm wondering if they're going to go dark and brooding again - his face has that great character in it that could pull that off. I loved him in the fires of pompei - its one of my favorite episodes. Just don't bring back the multi-colored daleks again - I know its a kids show, but people of all ages watch Dr Who, and its not like the makers don't know that. Those lolly daleks peeved me.
@Dagolas - I think it's only creepy if you want it to be. If you view it as today's society views it, then yeah, it probably is. Just remember they won't have any feelings for each other (at least I hope not!).
Isn't the Doctor over a 1000 years old? No matter how old he looks, it is a little creepy that he and Rose had a thing, surely?
I'll miss Matt Smith - he was my favorite Doctor. As for Capaldi, he'll do well (although I can't help but think of Malcolm Tucker whenever I see him ). I wish it had been a woman or a person of color, though; another white dude in a line of a lot of white dudes is getting old.
Imagine the controversy and the hate. There's already been death threats over a mixed race cereal commercial, I think it's wise not to make the doctor black...
Really? Apparently the role was offered to a black actor (Idris Elba?) but was refused. My personal choice would have been Lennie James - I think he would have been brilliant.
Oh no! you have SylvesterMcCoy'd me! Reminded me of this: http://www.gameofthronescharacters.net/peter-dinklage-leaving-game-of-thrones-april-fools-day-2013-prank/
I can see what you mean; there's something very "tall dark stranger" about him. Although can't say I'm attracted to him myself -or any other man, for that matter.
