    Please Stop Constantly Moving Posts

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Snoopingaround, Aug 3, 2011.

I realize that I am new here and all, but I must say that I find it quite annoying when moderators constantly move posts around into threads they feel is best. I mean, if you start a topic that you think is an original thread, but a mod happens to believe it fits somewhere else, then some of the aggressive ones will just move them wherever they want to. I think it is generally a good policy to let interesting thread topics be, even if they are somewhat similar to previous ones.
This shows respect for the forum public and allows them to start new takes on various topics of conversation, and not rehash the same exact thread that has been floating around for multiple years, with 50 million old posts that no one is going to read.

As a member of other forums, I really believe this is a good policy.

If a new thread makes better sense combined with another thread (like the movie one you started, which I'm assuming is what you're talking about), then why should they just leave it there? It's not that hard to find out where it went...

i don't see any problem with what's being done in re moving threads... they seem to be done for a good reason and it doesn't happen all that often, anyway...

    In bold: your qualifications.

I don't see why you can't start a new take on a current topic within a thread not specifically for your point of view. Just because it's in an older thread, it does not make the contents of the post a rehash.

What the mods are doing is cleaning which gives the forum a cleaner appearance. What you are trying to do is make a new thread about the same thing as another thread because you think the point you want to make is important enough to constitute a new thread.

It's arrogant to think that your opinion is that important to everyone that they need to be able to see it in a new thread, rather than having to go through, and I quote, "50 million old posts" first.
If your point is a new one, and not a rehash, then they shouldn't need to go through old posts. They should be able to just read yours.

In your case, you posted a new music related thread. This is a writing forum, so we prefer to keep certain topics contained, and not spawn new threads like rabbits on Viagra. Music is one of thise toipics. We have had problems with music threads multiplying to the point they shove other topics out of visibility.

You are new to this site, so you may not understand the reasons threads are grouped in certain forums, or combined into single threads.

    Thanks for the explanation.
I am new to this particular forum, but I am basing my conclusions on other forums I have frequented. I suppose that it is ultimately a matter of opinion as to whether a thread is similar enough to another older thread to be merged or not. I just happen to be of the opinion that merging posts or threads frequently is not necessary, and there can be the possibility of the new thread veering off into a direction that the poster was not intending when he tried to come up with a new conversation on a similar (but not exactly the same) topic. Besides, forums are naturally a product of its members and each of their contributions will collectively form what the forum looks like. The main job of the mods is to eliminate junk, spam, constant flaming, etc. That is what "cleaning" up a forum is, for cruciFiction's information. Also, though there are many forumers who are not from the USA, in America we respect individual opinions and try to have as much of a let things be kind of attitude when it comes to these kinds of things, and avoid arbitrariness and authoritarian approaches towards life in everyday matters. Or at least that is what I am led to believe. So in a forum I get a little taken aback when posts get deleted and also moved about arbitrarily (at the total discretion of the mods). Both morally and logically, I think my previous suggestions make sense. But maybe they do things a little differently in the UK?

This has nothing to do with the UK. It has to do with the WF.

Not all forums are the same.

Surely, as a member of so many other forums, you will undoubtedly know of a forum better suited to your not-so-writing-related threads. If you want to talk about movies (and the Movies, Movies, Movies! is not "good" enough for you) then why not take your no-doubt interesting, movie-related discussions to, say, a forum for discussing movies?

I mean, seriously, why are you making such a big fuss about this?

All i gotta say is don't piss off the Moderators. They move stuff for a reason. Go on the Halo Reach fourms, then come back to this and see what policy is better. Because i swear out of all the fourms ive joined, this is the best and most organized one. Ive only been here for a couple of weeks but it doesn't seem that way because this place has great rules and it's policy is the best. Bungie comes in second, just not the Reach one.The Reach one is really slow, and there's too much spam and the threads are just whining kids and it gets old after awhile. Third would probably be Perfect Union... and so on.....
