Howdy everyone, my name is wsmoore. I'm working on a little sci-fi story right now and will be looking for feedback on it eventually, but until then I will try to do my best and offer some reviews of pieces. I'm happy to have stumbled on what seems to be such an active community!
It is the 61th year anniversary of a peace treaty between all the main planets in the gallactic federation on the Roton space station, which was created on the date of the end of the war. To commemerate the anniversary, there is a conference of the federation planets. The president of the Ice Planet Alaxaq, has come to the conference after a long time in isolation on his cold world. He returns to meet his lover, his old friend, and to confront the corruption rumored to be spreading in the counsel. He returns to bright colored costumes and eccentric characters from around the universe to see what has become of the league that was founded under friendship and peace. However, before that can happen, a more serious issues present itself. The idea for the story originally came from a dream which was so vivid and haunting, that it drove me to ask a specific girl out. I started the story as a really simple email about what happened in the dream that convinced me to chase her. Then I added a fight scene and description... and the project got kind of out of hand I have been working on it for a while now, to eventually give to her. In the beginning I figured I would just write it and it would be worth a couple laughs, because it was a total mary-sue tale... but then I started really working on it, and thought that if I was going to put so much effort and thought into it, I might as well make it actually good. Eventually I will be able to proudly present it to her
Hello W. S., Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Oh whoops, looks like I already broke a rule. "All posts must be in English, with no hidden text." My bad!
