My policy on offending people, Don't tip toe, but don't stomp either. I really think political correctness is for people looking to be victims All you need are manners and confidence.
I do think today it is used as a tool to shut people up though I think like "Homophobe" ect. Is used to shut people up people can not agree on a issue but being called homophobic, racist, bigoted will not help thing's. But yeah it is a way to avoid issues
What could posibly happen to me if I will get politically incorrect about something? I think it is a worry that comes from our childhood and more sensitive are these who didn't have to worry in the past. For it is something new for them or these who had to strictly follow some rules and this behaviour benefited their life I don't like to make people angry just to feel important, but once I feel right about something, the correctness might mean more issues for me, like in creative writing, not being so creative
Well, it's the truth. Authors have gotten death threats in the past based on what they write. The same goes for any form of public entertainment. Musicians. Artists. If you don't reflect a favorable opinion on current social issues, you can get a lot of backlash on it.
You mean that you can solve conflicts like that by threatening to people? Well, I wouldn't expect it to be so easy, but you have to admit that old ways might have something to offer
That's not solving conflicts - that's bullying people into either doing things your way or shutting up.
Here's my thought: I have a character who hates Asians. He thinks they're inferior, creepy, stupid, etc. He just doesn't like them (still trying to find a reason to explain that, though.) But how do I show it? I suppose it's easy to swing one way or another, but I think for a racist/bigoted character, you have to find the right amount that will serve him/her. Now, if you're writing historical fiction, then PC should be tossed out of the window. People back in historical times did not have the 21st-century mindset we have now. They believed certain groups were beneath them for all sorts of reasons. As I've learned in an old history forum, the worst thing a historian (professonial or otherwise) is to try and force modern ideals into a world that never had them in the first place, and get all bent out of shape that they apparently can't see it that way. Not to say that your historical characters can't be forward-thinking, btw.
I just wanted to say it's refreshing to see folks who don't care much for political correctness. I saw this somewhere a long time ago and it kinda stuck in the back of my mind: “(Political correctness is) A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.” -Student at Texas A&M University
