I've been gigged for using too many commas. I am trying hard to resist the urge to "over punctuate," Here is a sentence I posted on my old fishing web site. I read it tonight and removed a comma or two. Did I go too far? "The anonymity of the web allows folks to take cheap shots, personal ethical conduct doesn't."
I'm no expert...but I think a period or a semi-colon works better than the comma. Actually, the comma doesn't even work, as far as I know. How on earth did you have to REMOVE commas? I don't see a single spot on that sentence where an additional comma would work!
I agree - period or semicolon: The anonymity of the web allows folks to take cheap shots. Personal ethical conduct doesn't. The anonymity of the web allows folks to take cheap shots; personal ethical conduct doesn't.
