    Quiestion on posting

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Yoshieslunchbox, Apr 27, 2008.

Where on this site would you post a story that would be around six pages on the ol' word processor. I don't want to overwhelm the short story section seeing as they are usually smaller than that but it's not exactly long enough to stick in the chapter by chapter area. Any suggestions?

Use the word count to find out how long it is. I would suggest that if it is over about 3000 words, it should go in the novels section, and just say it is a short, finished story. If it is around or under about 3000 then put it in short stories. :)

Actually, if it's a complete story, I'd put it into Short Stories, even it it requires two or three posts in the thread to finish it. But if it's much longer than what will fit into a couple posts, it's probably too long to post in its entirety anyway.

Nivels are separated out because they get reviewed differntly. A short story can be evaluated on the basis of the overall plot and development, whereas novels have to be analyzed for the writing in an excerpt. There's no point in even trying to post an entire novel, even if it weren't strongly discouraged for the wasted storage - no one will be reviewing anything that large, and the Review Room is not a vanity posting area, but rather a writing workshop,

if you intend to seek publication for it, don't ever post an entire piece of work!... if you do, you may be compromising your ability to sell 'first rights'... and that's all most mags want to buy...

at approx. 250 wpp, that would be around 3,000 words... and way too long for most folks here to want to read... it's always best to post only a small excerpt, if you want feedback on your writing... if you want feedback on the plot, it's best to post a brief synopsis, not the whole piece...

    love and hugs, maia
