There is a huge market for that. James Patterson and Janet Evanovich are two I know of. I've never made it past one chapter of either of them. Just not my genre.
Off the topic of cop shows, but on LCD. I thought Married With Children had a brilliant cast that was wasted on gross out gags aimed at a twelve year old boys, when comedic timing called for something more adult. Think Chuck Lorre. He writes funny stuff and keeps it smart. MWC could have done that, but went only for shock value, and it often fell flat.
I was an 18 year old Marine when it was in its heyday, so I had a sense of humor slightly less refined than the average twelve year old boy. But you may have a point.
Yes! They look like something out of a 50s sci-fi B-movie! Those roots (or whatever they are) were so healthy I felt bad throwing them in the bin.
The wreck of Endurance has been found in the Antarctic, 106 years after the historic ship was crushed in pack ice and sank during an expedition by the explorer Ernest Shackleton.
Wild. Made me google Shackleton. Interesting guy. Seemingly healthy guy died of a heart attack in his forties. Had one son become a leader in British Parliament.
I saw the original and one of the adaptations. I believe the adaptation I saw was made in Australia, but not sure. I saw it in the eighties. I do remember it was very good.
Amazing leader. I read a book about the expedition and he managed to get every single one of his men out alive, in the face of some of the worst conditions imaginable. Those guys were being hunted by sea lions at one point.
Just watched a show where someone had to get some ordination on the internet to perform a wedding. This is BS. I performed a wedding once. Being an ordained minister, whether by an established church, or some shady internet entity is neither sufficient or necessary to perform a wedding. What you need is to get an officiant license from your local county government. Ordained ministers need them to, and get perpetual ones. I got a single event license. I think it was thirty five bucks.
the craziest part was the guy lugging around a 40-pound camera and documenting the whole expedition on film.
TIL Russia is the world's #1 exporter of raspberries EDIT: #1 producer of raspberries. They export a lot but it looks like the #1 exporter is actually Mexico.
The first person to receive a human heart transplant in 1967, Louis Washkansky, lived eighteen days after the operation. The second, Philip Blaiberg in 1968, lived over a year after. In 2012 I ran a half marathon where I trained with a group of 'survivors.' The event was sponsored by a local hospital of which the group was a promotion. I had cardiac stents, and one of our group was a transplant recipient who is still alive today.
