Four surely? Tuesday - Tyr's day Wednesday - Woden (Odin)'s day Thursday - Thor's day Friday - Frigg's day
I was going to say "Don't abuse your god-like powers," but I see I'm too late. From the forum rules: I assume you'll be infracting yourself, then?
I've been in the Mods's Lounge. All they do in there is infract themselves, infract each other, infract the furniture, and engage in infractions that would drive Cthulhu and Hastur mad overnight. It ain't pretty.
I assume we’re expected to carry out our work in this, given we’ve not been given the day off. I have news for them, it’s siesta time… all day! And why does the law state there’s a maximum working temperature for office workers, but not those who work outside… you know, outside, where there’s no hiding from the sun?
When I worked at the field station for an international confectionary company, we were allowed to come in from outside when the temperature hit 108.
108 ?? Holy shit! That would kill us Brits. It topped out at 95 today and I can’t cope with even that!
Hence why the late and unlamented Gilbert Gottfried lost what was undoubtedly a very lucrative gig for the amount of work he had to put in.
It nearly killed me. One day when the temp was about 105 degrees, I broke out in goosebumps and started to shiver. Figured that was not a good sign, so I quit thinning corn, and walked slowly, slowly the quarter mile back to the field house where I essentially collapsed. I fell asleep on the floor of the office while my boss was pouring cold well water over me. He kept me working inside for a week before I went back into the field. I never really recovered from the experience (almost half a century ago) and wilt like a snowflake as soon as the temperature gets much over 90 degrees.
A million words into your novel, and using Google Docs or some other 'cloud' storage? Stop that. https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/07/15/1056042/chinese-novel-censored-before-shared/
"It has also highlighted the tension between Chinese users’ increasing awareness of privacy and tech companies’ obligation to censor on behalf of the government. “This is a case where perhaps we are seeing that these two things indeed might collide,”"—Gee... ya think?
Fascinating stuff! And I mean that in the nicest possible way. I honestly don’t know how they expected us to work today. We drove from site to site but stayed in the van pretty much the entire shift. Thankfully the sun and lack of rain we’ve had in the last few months means the grass we’re supposed to be mowing has all but stopped growing, so we can safely skip a few.
I remember one summer I didn't quite collapse, but when I was just about done mowing the lawn I suddenly had to lay down on the ground very quickly. I just left the mower there, went in, and drank cold water in front of the AC for a good long while. I recovered completley luckily. Sorry to hear about your incident. There are tricks you can use on really hot days. I used to ride a bike to work, and in the hottest part of summer I'd soak my shirt in cold water before I left. It was about a 15 minute trip, and just before I got there the shirt would be dry, but I was still comfortable. When you first put it on though it's a shocker!!
I was attending college in Fresno County, California at the time of the heat incident. It wasn't unusual for the San Joaquin Valley to have many, many days in a row over 100, and temperatures up around 110 or 115 weren't unheard of. I managed okay until that particular collapse- never liked the heat, had to move slow, but I could deal with it. Afterwards-
