When Ireland first went into lockdown in March. And considering I live by a very busy main road, akin to an A road in England, that says a lot. Incidentally, we also have a great starry sky here, when the clouds are more sparse. My back garden has a field behind it. :)

It's going to be hot this weekend, but I'm fine with that.

    1) I don't mind hot weather as long as it doesn't last too long at a time.

    2) Six weeks from now we might have rainy chilly days as it will be middle September.

    3) It's stunningly beautiful right now and working at the high school garden has brought me so much happiness this summer.

37 years ago I went to my first MLB game. 12-year old me had a wonderful time. We sat in the upper deck down the left field line. Heck of a ball game in front a huge crowd.

The first, and only, MLB game I attended was in the late '60s, we drove down to KC to watch the then-KC-Athletics play the Yankees. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris were there, but didn't start, though I think Maris pinch-hit. I wasn't an intense baseball fan -- and a lousy player -- so I had a so-so time. My adult son has already doubled my total, with two Brewers' home games.

I've been to at least one Cubs game and one White Sox game in my elementary school days, think one was a Cub Scout outing. My first date with the future Mrs. A was a Hanshin Tigers game.

Reminds me. One time I was driving somewhere with the future Mrs. L, and the radio DJ was offering up two great tickets to a sold-out College World Series game, to whoever could give the best reason to get them. I called and said my fiancee was Chinese-born and new to this country and had never seen a baseball game. So I got the tickets. Great seats, 3d base side, great weather, and a good game. But of course my partner had absolutely no idea what the game was all about, though she was polite about it.

There was a time when I would hit Fenway park 8 to 12 times a year. Had a buddy who lived in Back Bay, and I wasn't working a billion hours a week. Used to be able to buy a ticket for $20 at the gate 5 mins before the first pitch. Now you're talking $100 on the secondary market.

And the less said about Patriots tickets, the better. Used to have a guy with corporate access that would hook me up. Then he died.

    True story.

Too bad he didn't leave you the Patriot tickets in his will.

When I lived in Husker-land (sold out football since 1962) , I worked for a judge who had forever had a pair of season tickets on the 45-yard line, and, being up there in years, he didn't always want to go and sometimes I got them. That was years ago, nowadays people of his "status" would of course have skybox seats, but those were not around then.

I went to a few other games as a younger man, with tickets my dad scored from a client, though those were usually end-zone seats.

Today was kind of rough as the loneliness was really strong. But we got through it. Will try to do better tomorrow.

Going home to watch some 1970s pro wrestling on my laptop before heading to bed.

    Take care.

    Night, everyone.

I'm not a football fan, but I'm told the Chicago Bears only have season tickets now. Might not be true, dunno. But my dad has/had a coworker who left the Big Software Company to start his own consultancy and was the proud owner of two season tickets. Once a year he'd take my dad to a game and try to hire him away. The other games were reserved for other employment or business prospects, it was just how the dude rolled.

Had 2 dreams last night back to back where i died....
First one, i was on rollerblades trying to out run a giant komodo dragon.
I came to a dead end and had to climb. So i was trying to get my skates off, and the komodo dragon caught me and ripped me up.

Second dream, i was in the Arctic, i guess (or where ever leopard seals are). Anyways. It was cold, i was standing on ice, and these twins i knew in middle school (adults in my dream) were ice fishing. As there are ice fishing i see this shadow moving beneath the ice. They say "oh don't worry about it. The leopard seals tend to steal our fish. Stay away from their air holes and you'll be fine." And im like "ok..."
So he asks if i want to see something cool. He takes me to the frozen body of a killer whale and says "it came up on the ice chasing a seal but couldnt get back in the water and froze"
Im freaked out, but its pretty cool. So im walking around this frozen whale when i trip over its tail, slide on the ice and into a hole that drops me in the water under the ice. You'd think a leopard seal would eat me after all that foreshadowing. Nope! I freeze instantly and die.

Why do we die in dreams? And why do they kill me in the weirdest ways....
Also, why ice fishing and why 2 people that i haven't seen or spoken to in like 14 years

Did some research and it looks as if August 24 is the preferred 2020-21 starting date for Iowa school districts. Did find one starting on the 17th.

Western Dubuque, therefore Cascade High School, is starting on the 13th.

Not sure why they chose such an early date.

Don't know how much longer I can stand this goatee I'm growing. I hate the feeling of needing a shave but I thought I might get away with the irritation given it's such a small area. Not really how it's working out because I have an irresistible urge to rip my face off.

    Two things I just learned:

    1) Gregory Hines is older than my parents.
    2) No, he's not, he's been dead for 13 years.

Don't know if I missed the second one or just forgot about it, but the number of entertainers whom I liked in my teen years who are/were older than my folks amazes me. I was trying to scare my parents with musicians who would have beaten them up and stolen their lunch money (if they were that sort of person) when I was a teen.

Where can the love of God be found,
when the Waves turn minutes to hours?

Whenever you go to the beach and splash around in the water, you're basically swimming in a mass graveyard littered with remains of sunken ships and drowned humans claimed by the sea over the course of human civilization. Just something to think about.

Of course every event in The Perfect Storm after the antenna broke off (and most of the rest of the story as well) is pure conjecture. The crew of the Andrea Gail could have been rescued by a UFO piloted by Glenn Miller and Amelia Earhart with the passengers of the MH370 doing a conga line in the cargo section for all we really know.
