A superpower. With any book this woman reads, its title comes true. She is forbidden to read Death of a Salesman, To Kill a Mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451... The War of the Worlds....

Man, I love Death of a Salesman. Even the movie was pretty good. A depressing story, but very critical of the work environment of that age and the growing issue of aging workers being left behind.

I've come to love watching/listening to television/radio shows along with news broadcasts from the 40s through 80s. It's a wonderful way to feel what people were thinking then and what was important to them at any particular time.

I've been meaning to get to it for ages. It's the basis for Jack Lemmon's character in Glengarry Glen Ross and that Tom Hanks/Jackie Gleason movie, isn't it?

I've been rearranging furniture today and it's been good, but I can't figure out what to do with my dresser so I'm staring at it hoping it'll make a decision for me. It's the last thing aside from folding laundry I have to do in this room and it will not defeat me.

Edit: got it. It's on a diagonal, which sounds odd but it works best for how small this room is. Everything is as it should be.

Have been watching some short NFL highlight videos on YouTube (controversial calls, crazy endings, etc.)

I'm stating the obvious with this, but to see how television production has changed from the 1970s to today by seeing every era in one video is stunning.

I dunno why I thought I'd get away with moving antique heavy chairs by myself today, but my back is here to tell me I was incorrect.

I have phases sometimes where I move all the furniture... and then a day or two later my back says that retrieving something from a drawer is overdoing it.

I understand it's complaint, but the delay is baffling. o_O

What was the name of that female band that used to wear round sunglasses and black top hats?

Illinois is putting off its high school football season until spring, while Iowa will have a reduced schedule. This has led one prospect to transfer from a state champion Illinois school to Iowa's West Des Moines Dowling.

The number of kids who something like this will be small, but I was still surprised to see the news.

If I’m not careful I’m going to run out of my holiday entertainment before I’m even half way through the year. What’s more I’m only taking them because my body can’t cope with too many full weeks in succession, so I’m forever booking Mondays, or even Mondays and Tuesdays off to give me a long weekend. I’ve worked out I need to save 7 days for Christmas, so I can finish Christmas Eve and not have to return till 13th January.

I’ve only been here 18 months. There’s some guys who’ve been here for 30+ years. They deserve a medal... or need their head examined. One or the other.

Seems like this week has been tough for a lot of people. I hope everyone has a better day today than they've had so far!

@OurJud , I don't know how to tell you this, but halfway through the year occurred on July 1; so it's worse than you thought.

For us its the oposite problem - we worked through lockdown and with a bout 20% of the guys either shielding or off sick, and about 4x the usual work load there's no time for anyone to take the leave they're owed... people are burning out (the end of the tourist season cannot come soon enough)

Half way through my year I meant. My holiday quota doesn’t renew until the end of April.

But I don’t understand what you mean anyway. How would being further into the year than I thought be worse?

I guess I didn't understand the term "holiday quota." I thought it was just a general term for amusement options. And by "worse" I meant that you have more than half of the calendar year remaining.

Just an attempt at levity that went astray, I guess.

Oh, I see. No, by holiday quota I mean the number of paid days we're allowed to take off. I get approx 24 days over 12 months (although it's actually measured in hours) and for me those allowances run from the end of April to the end of the following April.

Ordered Easy Rider this morning at about 08:30 and it arrived about an hour ago. Man I love Amazon Prime!
