It was a close vote. Thank you all for entering and everyone for participating, judging, reading, and voting. Contest winners, I'll be in contact with you shortly about claiming your prizes. I've de-anonymized the contest entries and unlocked the threads, so all entries should be publicly viewable and open for comment. Thank you all, and congrats to our winners!
Huge congratulations to @Aled James Taylor! Now, goddamnit, I have to read your story! At least, I know it'll be great!
Congratulations to the winners. Question: How come there is enough funds for cash prizes but not enough for server funds?
The contest was planned and budgeted prior to current financial situation. Basically, both myself and WF were doing fine financially when the contest was launched, and I was expecting money to cover the prizes by the contest end date. Financial difficulties only came up after the contest was announced (otherwise it probably wouldn't have been held). If you'd like to discuss further, PM me or feel free to reply in the linked thread.
Congatulations on the win, Aled. On December 16th, on the main contest thread, you agreed to swap critiques with me, so I've just added mine (actually I was so sure that you were the author of Recovery that I wrote it earlier in the week!). For anyone else who'd like a critique of their story (and I'm not claiming to be some sort of expert or anything, but I promise to reread your entry and put a decent amout of thought into it), I make the same offer: you critique mine and I'll critique yours. Please be honest. Mine was my first story, so I'm expecting loads of issues. Use words like cringeworthy, boring and ridiculous as you see fit.
Thank you all for your kind words. I really didn't expect to make the short list let alone win! Wow! Critiques and comments on my story are welcome. @Patra Felino I shall critique your story as promised.
Congrats Aled! I'm proud of you and very impressed. I Started reading, and I must say I am pleased. I love the prose, the character, the scenario, the interiority, the premise, the set up for tension--all of it! Definitely win-worthy. If I didn't have to sleep now I'd read the whole think. I'm kinda sad to wait for the rest. Great job!
Congrats! I hope the trophy girl was hot and had on a skimpy bikini. Since it was a sci-fi contest should probably should have had three breasts.
Yes, you can. Alternatively, I can move it to the workshop so it's visible only to members and not the public. Shoot me a message if you'd like to do either of these.
