25. 26ish.... Somewhere i missed one. QueryTracker is saying one more rejection than i mentioned..... And then another agent i submitted to ended up quitting or something (does that count as a rejection, i wonder?)
Got a lil' cluster of them over yesterday and today. All form letters, though nice, polite, and encouraging as always. Let's see now.. a 9-day, two 10-days, and a 29-day. That bumps me up to 19 rejections this year. Thought that might get me closer to J.T.'s total, but I see she has kept up her lead
Two form rejections from Spark Flash Fiction. One 16-day and one 26-day. I’m not doing the challenge but decided to check how many rejections I’ve had anyway this year- 11.
You are on fire @J.T. Woody. It took me 440 rejections to sell my first short story, and when I did it landed someplace AMAZING. Of course, those rejections weren't all for the same story, but I believe it took all those rejections to lead me to publication. I have another story that I sold not too long ago that probably got right around 100 rejections on its own before it sold, also to a good publication. For that story there were two many times I almost gave up on it. But I'm super glad I kept sending it out. You only need one yes. It's like we're traveling through murky water to find that lifeboat, but it's there. Keep swimming, my friend, and you'll find it.
Is that from the Berkeley Fiction Review? I've tried them before. I like their process. It seems pretty cool.
This isn't writing-related, but still a creative rejection: I auditioned for an upcoming musical improv show but wasn't cast. Still, the audition was fun, and I felt like I did a good job while also identifying areas I can improve on for next time.
A rejection a day is what I aim for. It means every day someone who's somewhat influential reads at least some of my writings. I am more popular than Shakespeare was in the bottom of the seventeen-hundreds, when everyday people could not read, and everyday people could not write. I am able (or it is my aim) to have my writing read by as many editors as possible. Better than not being read at all, if my goal is to be read by as many people as possible. If the price I pay for it is a rejection (active or passive), so be it. My job is done for that each day my writings are not accepted. I mean, my own friends don't read my books. There have been tons of praises, though, mainly coming from my grandmother. If my writing hurts them so much, then the editors who reject me and I are on even keel on the battlefield of rejection. They don't like to read what I wrote, yet they must read them? Well... let them suffer. Serves them right.
Got two 33-day form letter rejections for short stories sent to Augur Magazine today (they allow multiples, and that's all of them now). In the form letter they mention that they only publish 1-2% of what they receive. I am up to 21 rejections for the year now.
33. (Edit to add: QT just jumped me to 34.... But i didnt get any new rejection messages since the 33rd one Did i just get quietly rejected????? Wtf?) Im going to start submitting a short story of mine once i get my computer back, so ill have 2 things going at once
