I might as well add my question. I just got positive rep points a little while ago, but under thread it says "N/A" and there is no comment. I'm not even sure if my rep points went up. All I know is that the little icon is green. What exactly does this mean? I have no idea where it came from.
Whoever repped you didn't leave a comment or identify himself/herself. But if the blob next to that line is green, it is positive rep. If it is grey, it could be either, but the person who gave it doesn't have any rep-giving power yet.
I've got a bunch of these - when the site experienced the unfortunate loss of many historic posts earlier this year, threads that were linked through the reputation CP changed to N/A. Which is the same thing as Cog is saying. Either way, wherever you earnt your rep is no longer commonly navigable.
Just so you know: The negative rep option has been removed, so any rep you receive after this date will be positive (barring any undiscovered holes in the software). Even if you see a gray blip in your rep list, you will know that the member clicked "I approve."
Can I confess here that I love +reps! It feels so childish to get so excited over virtual praise from nearly complete strangers that will never translate into any real world benefit other than my own sense of self-esteem, sigh, but I do... I've even been tempted to 'llort' (troll backwards) just for +reps
What's a Reputation? This may be a dumb question, but I have no clue what a reputation is. I mean, I know what it means, but not in terms of this site. Apparently I just got one...is that good or bad?
Well, if it was good reputation it was good. If it was bad, bad. Green= good, and red= bad. if it's gray I'm pretty sure that's just neutral. Reputation is basically a way for users to rate your posts. If they really like something you contributed or posted you can get good reputation. So if you see something you like, or if someone's doing something that's really not okay, you can add a point to their reputation, good or bad.
See above. And as mentioned, negative reps have been disabled on this site, so all reps you receive indicate approval. Congratulations.
Explanation of symbols Hope I'm doing the asking here correctly. I find near my icon "<username> is on a distinguished road" Can somebody explain the relevance of this?
The Little Green things. Hey everyone. I'm wondering what the little green things below your avatar mean. Is that your post count? and how do the little green boxes increase in number? Thanks, Hawky94
Little green things are rep points and you give them to someone who is helpful to you. Everyone starts out with one, and each subsequent square is 100 points. The lighter green ones (on the people with a huge string of them) are 200 each. To give them to someone, you use the courtroom scale symbol next to the green/gray online/offline dot. The higher your post count, the more rep you're allowed to give. It doesn't mean you take out of your own stash to give away; giving rep doesn't affect the number of your own.
Its your reputation. Put the cursor over it, and it'll say something. Every 100 points of rep given to you, you'll get a new green box. Get five green boxed and your next one will be a bright green one. If you look under User CP you can see if anyone has given rep. Check it out now, see if you can. Edit - I got ninjed this time. lol
Rep Points I've noticed that when people give me rep points, my total has gone up anywhere from 1 point to, I believe 40 points (actually, the minimum was 0, but the minimum that actually counted was 1). Is there some logic to this? It seems completely random to me. When I give rep, I've never seen an option or even an indication of how many points I'm giving. Just curious.
I'm not sure, but I think the amount of rep points you can give depends on the rep boxes you have. If someone only has one, the rep they can give is lower than someone with more rep boxes.
Just kidding. Figured it out on my own. Not sure how I could possibly see my own rep points, however. Not that I'm actually fishing for them.
The exact amount of points a person can give is dependant on their number of posts, and their own rep. I don't know the formula off the top of my head, but there are a lot of threads on rep, and I seem to recall it's in one of them, if you're that interested.
Gotcha. So it's not random. Sometimes thing really do have some logic behind them... even if no one remembers exactly what.
