Very sad. To be honest, I'd only heard of him in passing before his untimely death. I read about him after he passed, and checked out the small sample of his work, and then ordered 2 of his books off Amazon. I'm waiting until they arrive. RIP.
According to Wiki, he was a Canadian-born writer who lived in NYC, as was known for his humor in his mostly non-fiction essays. He died of cancer in Massachusetts on August 8th, 2012.
I didn't even realize he died until I heard the This American Life dedicated to him. He was a great talent who had a way with words and rhyme. I recommend at least listening to his rhymed poem in the episode Frenemies. His voice will be missed.
