Well...Persistent World role-plays are kind of weird to set up. Since its going to be the same world all the time with characters coming and going we would have to decide on the type of world. Or maybe there could be a different thread for each type of genre; Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Real World. That kind of thing. Once the particulars of the world are decided the RP takes on a life of its own and requires very little GM management. Teele would probably be to busy with Mod duties to start it himself, but seeing as it doesn't require a whole lot of tedious management I would be able to take care of something like that. I'll discuss it with Teele in the morning I guess....but I'm pretty sleepy now.
i would stick with one plot to starting witrh to see how it goes, I've worked in these sorts of RPG's before and they don't work if something fresh is not brought to the table constantly. The PC's need to create a plot then after following it through create another. Also I found it handy to work in seasons. so their could be short breaks between action and so the threads were split into sections season one, season two and so on. Even though these RPG's are pretty easy to look after there should be as Darkthought said a GM to help out here and there
I like the sound of a few Persistent Worlds if I've understood them correctly. They would be similar to RPG's except that they wouldn't really ever end. And it sounds like more control would be given to the players rather than the GM to shape and manipulate events. In this case would more than 12 players be allowed?
LOL. Well, when I first came, one of the ideas I had was to do something like what you guys are talking about, but I didn't know if such a thing could be done. I was also thinking of perhaps creating a subforum for collective worldbuilding: where we all kind of work on imaginary worlds and environments together, and then use them in RPGs. But, the idea of a Persistent World, where basically any player can come and go as they please, work at their own pace, and work with other players to create adventures sound amazing. Is that the entirety of the concept behind Persistent World? Or is there more to it? Also, do you guys have any examples from other sites I could take a look at?
Well that's basically it, an RPG like this is greatfor the fact that the players can also create plots. I've been part of many of these basically a small town was set up and the players got to it, they created plots more often then not there was more then one character to a player. A character might be killed off another would replace it. Hmm I'm not explaining this to well at the moment LOL. When Darkwakes up I'm sure he will
Nope. But if we do, I think I'd like to put it in a separate subforum (I'd have to talk to Mr. Senior Super Mod about that one) or maybe just specify in the title: The Big Epic World Thing (Persistent World) ...Crystan would make an amazing persistent world........
Well its your storyline and you definatly have the back history set up and the interested parties. Sure no one would stop you from giving it a go. Would you start it from where you was thinking of kicking off the RP or would you go back to the beginning for it and work through the timeline?
Not totally sure either way. I think what I might do is run a few adventures the standard way, and then maybe transform it into a Persistent World. I'd need to think about it for a bit.
My creation of Third Earth is coming back. It was always intended to be continious. So theres one persistant world. more coming soon.
I know of a place that set up a really good persistent world rp. Just give me a moment and I will be back with an example and an entire "How to".
I first did Third Earth when I created the RPG section rules way back in 2006. But we only had a few members so I dropped it for a re-creation I was planning to revisit the world and launch it after Rybok's Rat Pack. I've since done a full world builder on the planet of Third Earth and focused more on the creation of the ongoing.
Sounds excellent, Raven! I'd get in on that action! I'll definitely take a look at whatever you can grab, Dark!
Hm...well. Whatever site used to have either doesn't exist now or doesn't have the guide anymore. If you guys want, I could write up a guide and send it to Teele sometime tonight once I get home from work.
Here are the first two attempts One and Two of Third Earth in RPG archives. Way back then they were very basic and nothing near the standard done with recent games. But then that said they were my first attempts at RPG games on a forum. Since then a lot has changed and we have far more actively playing RPG members. I'll spend the next few days working something out. The game will probably consist of two or three threads One for profiles since its ongoing it will require a separate place one for Map and discussion and one for the game. And it will probably require sharing GM time sop Teele since your a mod with various Powers you'll pretty much be an excellent choice. Anyhow Let me work on this through the week. If it proves a popular concept with everyone I'll launch it once created. Since it will be persistent there’s no point in queuing it.
It may need a seperate thread to act as a summary for it to? If its on going obviously summaries would be brief but it probably wouldn't hurt to have a basic record of whats happened? Look forward to been a new part of writing forum history lol good to see that the suggestion is been acted on so quickly!
Actually thats a good idea. So we'd certainly need four threads regarding this. Infact the Map could go in Summery at the starting post.
That's the way I interpreted it. I think that it would be a great idea. Maybe we could have a thread where the story wouldn't have to be very developed or complicated but it would have an ongoing scenario where we can stick characters who are missing out on other games Sort of like a Raven's Tavern for RPG characters where they can drop in and interact with others.
I like the idea, especially as Jade presented it, but I think stories would evolve...that's what happens when you get characters together unless you want to be bored.
Yeah, there would definitely be subplots and relationships between the characters but I was thinking like just a basic room where they can meet and talk... more like a way to practice playing them/develop them more.
Love to see all the good ideas coming together so quickly. And yup, Raven I would be happy to serve wherever necessary. In most RPGs I play I like having the freedom to mess around a little and play with some different angles...this sorta thing is the perfect opportunity for weirdos like me.
My god think of the bar brawls one character from 51 who thinks he's all that been a royal marine makes the mistake of annoying a player from the continent and the next thing he knows hes on fire. The rules of the world he knew have suddenly been defied
Now I like that. What I'm going to do is spend the next week working on this. So any idea's keep them coming. I've already got Third Earth created as I said I did a world builder for this. I just never got around to re-starting it. But now I know everyones keen and interested I'll spend the week devising the concept . Especially to a Persistent world.
I might eventually wanna put up a Persistent World for Crystan as well. I'd set it probably a few years after the Upheaval, when everything's still in a bit of anarchy, governments are unstable, lots of ruins to explore, small skirmishes still happening, and all-around lots of adventure to be had. This'd be distinct from the series I'll be building in RPG Standard Mode, which will deal with the Upheaval itself.
