hello I'm Kayne, obviously but anyway I've spoken with Cogito about an different writing format similar to your RPG's. and he said that if their was enough interest in it a Trial for it could be set up so we could take it for a test drive iron out the wrinkles let you feel how it handles. They're called Relays, simpler versions of your RPG's void of character sheets and overbearing rules, but they are longer more indepth and have a bit more room for creativity for all participants involved. Long story short anyone can create their own(or control characters provided) character aswell as write for all others as long as you follow basic relay rules found below. The author can also create their own set of mini-rules things they do and don't want, much like your RPGs They're not something I came up with they're the rules on the site I used to frequent, and to clarify this much LARP's are basically that site's version of RPG's so here are the rules Rule One: These are not LARP-style threads. A Relay, by WW.com standards (having been as such since 1999) are stories that are co-authored between several users. Each user's post should, theoretically have at least a page's worth of words (put it in a word program, if it fills up a page, you're good to go.) Any shorter and you're not doing the story justice. Rule Two: Spelling and Grammar do apply Should be common sense, seeing that this is a forum for co-authored stories, but still. If you're going to post here, you better make sure you're not using netspeak or mystipyng every ohter word u rite. It's painful to read and it only lowers the quality of the Relay forum. I'm not asking to grammar-nazi your posts, but c'mon, this isn't a chat, you have time to proof-read. Rule Three: Ask before WorldBreaking Relays are a bit more lenient about character controlling. After all, it's a co-authored project. However! If you're going to change the story in a drastic way, or do something that you don't know that another user's character would actually do... please ask the user of that character and/or the original author of the thread if you can do what you wanted to do. Rule Four: Relays can be slow Relays are not like the hetic hustle-and-bustle of the LARP forum. Relays are longer and more in-depth, therefore it's longer between posts. A couple of days is a normal wait, what with everyone's schedules and whatnot. Rule Five: Finish what you Start I'm so guilty of breaking this rule, and usually, this rule will be a lax one. We all have real lives after all that steal us away and sometimes, Inspiration dies. Try to keep the relays you've joined alive. If you need to bow out, tell someone so they can take over/write out your character Rule Six: Keep it Clean I've re-written this rule because this site is geared toward a PG-13 group and I hope that means I don't have to spell it out , if so I will later. I may revise these rules as needed and be sure to mind the general site rules too thats about it so tell me what you all think.
@Leaka, sounds like an interesting RP, at least make sure to detail, what happened with this slip up. I'm just confused on that subject and I'm wondering, what the hell happened. @Kayne, wow, I'm interested because its something new, I'm just hoping that I'll have the attention span to write a whole page without becoming bored. Are relays essentially writing a book with multiple authors, that have the possibility of one day being published? Also on Rule six, does that mean no profanity? Cuz I'm pretty sure PG-13s are profanic.
Rule six basically means the usual forum content rules apply. With regard to profanity: One tning you should probably discuss is how to make sure Rules 5 and 6 don't cause games to grind to an unresolved and uncrackable halt. Essemntially, you need a way to cleanly decide in advance what to do if any participitant, including the leader of the current game, disappears or fails to post for an excessive period of time.
Speaking of ethnic slurs, I learned a new one last night when I was watching Clerks 2. Randal said 7 others but they were all censored.
I had a certain mini-rule I implied in my relays never really made a fuss of it, giving three days to posts so if someone hasn't posted in three days it allows the next person to post the person skipped over can take their turn when they get back.
Oh. The energy they were working on was a gas of some sort. It was still in early stages of testing, therefore when the slip up accord the gas leaked out of the tanks they had. They hadn't realized the gas would be so harmful. And with so many laboratories dotted along Earth's countries, it was enough to kill off all life on the planet.
How about an evolution kind of game? Thousands of years after people have gone, the Earth continues to grow and change. Everyone will pick an animal and will shepherd that species to survive and prosper. They get to choose in what direction the species will change as time passes, while keeping sustainability in mind. So if a certain species (let's say frogs) is suddenly faced with massive droughts, how will the species change? One person might want to make them able to enter the seas/tolerate salt water, while someone else might make them intelligent enough to dig down to water sources or hide in wet places, like breaking into a cacti and resealing it's entry point until the next rain. And so on. Generally seeing how the species will adapt to new changes and whether or not it will go on to replace humanity as the species to prosper the most or simply go extinct.
I've got an idea i could pull up. or at least test. Of course, the RPG Lounge is always open. By the way, you guys currently in the Lounge, DB, the GM, has basically given up on the Lounge, so I, AGM, will probably take over. So, what do you guys want to do?
hmm the rpg lounge put me off a bit because you have to read a couple pages back to understand what's happening, if anyone has some ideas or rather any idea about how to revive this section that would be great. Myself i cant handle the pressure of GM or any thing like that. Where's Jade when you need her...hmmm, i should send her a message.
I have an idea for an RPG that I could functionally throw together in a couple days, but I'd rather try to play an already existent one first. [Incidentally, what ever happened to the guy who posted "7: Days"? That one looked interesting]
: 7 Days was Darkthought right? it looks like he hasn't been on since beginning of last month. Something probably came up, i don't think he'd just abandon his RPG just like that. What kind of idea do you have DTW?
It's (yet another) Tolkeinian fantasy world. I actually have it pretty far developed; the time would be needed to finish posting important information about the world. I've started this in my blog, but I have a long way to go before it's useable (and I've been procrastinating).
Meh, I'm just trying to avoid the real world. My only goals are to avoid work and develop my character. I haven't read all the back story of the RPG since the story seemed to die, maybe a good time for a fresh start?
A fresh start is my plan. I'm waiting for some feedback from DB about just how fresh. I need to know if we're just ignoring the past quest or sort just having everyone (or just the people who survive/no one) come back from the quest all of a sudden.
I suddenly feel like coming back and rping again. Starting college again soon though so hopefully that doesn't get in the way of being active...
Yeah... This place is pretty graveyard-ish at the moment... I'm going to try and bring it back to life with an awesome rp though. of course, with so few people here... im not sure its possible.
But an awesome rp is sure to attract some people as well. Might as well try since there's no real harm in trying.
