i was always goingt to start a WWII RPG where there was the overall mission of taking out a bridge - which leads to finding the german mech creations, which must be destroyed at all costs...but i didnt have to time to moderate it

    What was yours Honorius?

I like the WWII idea, but those ones are always hard to get going. It's tough to write.

    Three ideas.

    1. Fate/ Stay Night spinoff: An Rpg based on the anime and visual novel Fate Stay Night. Basically, seven modern day mages have been chosen to participate in the holy grail war. A battle royal to obtain the holy grail, a vessel with the power to grant any wish. The twist, a heroic spirit, a great hero from times long past (i.e. King Arthur, Hercules, Alexander the Great) called a Servant is summoned to each of the mages, who are called Masters to assist them. The only way to obtain the grail is to defeat each of the other heroic spirits. Or kill their Masters, which in turn kills the Servant.

The problem, requires lots of people and some PVP interacions. 14 people max, but as little as five could be possible.

    2. An RPG that takes place in modern day new york in which a massive explosion of magical energy that has shook the foundations of the universe in the area. Suddenly, people who originally had no magical power are overflowing with magical energies. During the turmoil, a mysterious group of powerful mages have taken over the city during the period of turmoil. A group of ragtag, newly emerged mages and mages who have had their powers for years have been brought together to stop this force. May or may not include a race of half dragon people to this, it would be a possibility. Soon after or before the explosion a massive floating island of the creatures landed ashore on Manhattan island.

    3. Fantasy world that takes place on an archipelago. Pretty standard fantasy. The twist, fairly unique magic system that focuses on very specific use of magic. No abracadaberas, you want a fire ball, you have to ignite oxygen in the air and supply a fuel source. If you can't figure out how to do it, you can't do it. Also, dragons, half dragons, and other mythical creatures and half mythical creatures are prevalent.

This one is the best, in my opinion. Very original take on old concepts, familiar in enough unrelated and formerly uncombined ways to make something simultaneously unexplored and comfortable. I'd be up for it, just so long as you are better at updates than I am.

That's really cool Honor! I like the Fate/Stay Night one, because it's my favourite anime... but the second one is even better because it's original. You should go ahead and do one! :D

I plan to, but I won't start it until I feel that I have enough time to pay attention to it. I might start it up during winter break since I'll have some time then.

    Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Yeah, I wish. Sadly, I could count the number of dates I've been on in my life on one hand. A girlfriend is an almost inconceivably high goal for me. I've just been busy with college stuff and trying to work out my life; I'm seven grand short of financial aid for this past semester and if I can't find a way to pay it (and next semester as well) I may have to drop out.

But anyway, the day is done and I am here to post!

Then perceive it slower! Or rather, perceive it faster. Which ever means your personal frame of reference relatively slows down and everything else relatively speeds up.

Ouch, I paid for all of my college with private loans, kinda regret that now. On the one hand in my field you need to get started early, but on the other the pay off does not come quickly at all. It'll still be several years before I get paid enough to compensate for what I borrowed...

I don't see anything wrong with taking time off to earn $$ to pay for school. Bbut if you can work and take school at the same time so much the better.

The mind works in devious ways. Most people would say to the crying woman, I understand how you feel or even I know what it is like. But we can only perceive from our own experiences how they feel. Many of our decisions, our "knowledge" comes from perceiving. Our mind is capable of many things and it takes just one single human thought.
That is how a man makes a heaven out of hell and a hell out of heaven. With just one thought, one thought alone a man's perceptions can become reality. And it is the perception that humans are the most intelligent that gets in trouble. Why do I say this all now? Because I'm standing here staring at the scientist who believes his machines can stop time. Nothing wrong with stopping time. Right? Well we'll just about see about that won't we.

I've got a question for y'all. Are most RPGs fantasy based with magic and the like? It seems like half the fun is developing super powered characters. What are non-fantasy RPGs like? what are the differences in how it is played (besides the obvious no-superpowers)?

I've got an sci-fi based story line that I know I'll never write. I don't know if it might be able to be made into an RPG instead, it would mostly involve a lot of wandering around trying to solve a puzzle, with limited action.

I kinda feel like RPGs don't really work unless there is lots of violence and 'flash' to make it interesting...

No, this is more the result of a world building exercise that I could never pair with a good plot.

The premise for the RPG would be that the characters were once all astronauts on some shuttle that wake up on an alien world with no memory of how they got there. They then have to figure out where they are, how they got there, and how to get back (if possible). The thing is, as characters you wouldn't have any powers, or cool devices. Just your wit and your personality, I think it would take a very very good GM to make it work, and I'm not there yet.

Maybe I'll think about it after my first RPG that I hope to get up after a little more experience as a player. That one will be more of a standard fantasy magic dueling RPG. But each character will also have a totem pet, controlled in part by the GM, that they will have to manage.

Anyhow that's for the future, for now I'm excited for the currently running RPGs to keep moving :)

Sounds like a good idea Hawken, but you're right. That would take an amazing GM.

Why? Because it takes amazing authors to make those books work. The thing is, its just easier to write action than it is to write Horror, Thriller, Comedy, Suspense, and Mystery. It's just easier.

Although, there are Sci-Fi RPGs. Just not many non-action RPGs. Though there are a few. Except most of those involve using traditional means of self defense (pistols, knives, frying pans) to fight non-traditional enemies. (Demon ghosts on cruise ships)

There have been mystery RPGs, but the GM has to have planned out most of the plot in advance, and must make use of several NPCs to drop clues (and misdirections). The players then become amateur sleuths as well as potential victims.

RPGs can be created for just about any kind of fiction, but the GM has to exert a lot more control and do a lot more planning. At the same time, the players' freedom to act is a lot more proscribed.

An "And Then There Were None" type RPG would be really cool, I think. The GM would choose the killer and PM them I guess. Or the killer could be an NPC.
