Not much fun in that. You know who's a player and who's an NPC, so you already know you can eliminate the other live players as the killer. If the GM selects a player to be the killer, that player has to play a scripted role. The only way it works well is to have have several NPCs, one of whom is the killer.
Right, but then all of the characters would have to be detectives. Maybe the GM could play one of the characters in an alternate account; only moderators could tell they were the same person, yes?
I'll step back out then, and let you work out the logistics. For research/ideas, you could look at the old Infocom games The Witness and Deadline, and also mystery dinner theater productions.
I'm just in the beginning of an RPG now, but that definitely seems like something I'd like to do in the future. That is, if no one else wants to.
Yeah, I'm a little bummed. The final plans for my own RPG came together the other night in a fit of insomnia, but there's no way I could start it right now, there's way to much going on, and I'm already quite committed with 2 RPGs as a player. But as soon as it settles down, watch out for the most killer RPG EVER. (Well, maybe)
I don't know where this came from. Everyone has known I was going to start mine, and Aeverlest has been up for a while. I thought Sail and Sorcery was dead, and then DB finally starts Heavens Angels. Its pretty crazy. And then Zigg (No offense) started a really stupid looking one that sounds like it came straight from a D&D book.
Oh, don't mistake me for complaining, sorry. I'm really excited about all the RPGs I'm in I was more bummed about the timing of my muse in getting the plot for my RPG together, not about the RPGs that were running themselves or the sudden burst in new RPGs. I know I'll have my turn, I'm a patient man...
I swear I played a really terrible game of actual D&D with the one Zigg created. I'm glad I'm not the only one who viewed it that way. haha
Only a small amount is hitting things in dungeons. There are lots of SPOILERS portals and story-lines SPOILERS. Only a small amount is hitting things in dungeons. There are lots of Spoiler portals and story-lines . :-<
Well, you certainly didn't make it seem that way. You really should give players plot and world enough to hook them and build their characters on. You didn't give us anything other than the vague notion that there is a cave that has inexplicably become filled with darkness and needs to be purified somehow. Also, if you are going to use some sort of determinate game mechanic, such as "Stats", you need to adequately explain what they are and how they work. For all we know, a character's Foot Stench could be a stat, and could be the defining factor in battles. In other words, don't tell us that this well thought out, that this is going to have an expansive and epic storyline, that within the thread is a grand adventure simply awaiting one to conquer it. Don't tell us these things, show us.
Show not Tell is a central theme of writing (Which is important at writing forums) Basically, because we haven't been shown anything, it sounds a lot like Dustin's start to Crimson Rose. Stats, creepy caves, elves, dwarves, and humans. From just that, it sounds like a badly written D&D scenario. We need to be shown more.
You don't have to give everything away. Look at my RPG. I gave a detailed description of the back ground, and created a unique and interesting setting for the RPG. Now look, I've got nearly ten players and I haven't revealed who the enemy is, why they're attacking, what theyre attacking, or how theyre attacking. Nor how the players will start it. You don't have to give away every detail, but you have to give away just enough to get them salivating.
Well I used to know an example of a really crappy RPG place like that, but apparently, its all become RPG, but erotic. Which is really creepy... Anyways, OOC RPG is more like adding everything you say in the discussion thread into your posts. If you write something about attacking a monster, you have comments in parenthesis the whole time. It's sorta annoying.
