Saddest Two-Sentence Story?

I was driving like a bandit in Belgrade Maine last week, when out of nowhere this big old groundhog started hobbling across the road. The realization and the result was pretty much instantaneous.

 

"Where's Zed?"
"Zed's dead, baby."

 

She was gone, and would never be back, there was no one who would ever be in her place, he was absolutely sure, and it was too hard for him. And then he jumped.

 

I thought that the worst had happened. Then it did.

 

Jackson collapsed as a guilty verdict was returned on both charges and the judge announced two years' imprisonment for each, to run consecutively.

 

I remember the tubes and the wires and the beeping metal monsters that kept her alive toward the end. I wish I could picture her face.

 

The steak was juicy, tender, seared from the grill. I reached for it, but the dog snagged it first.

He missed his wife every day. But after installing laser sights, he didn't miss her again.

I promised my wife one more try and I’d stop gambling. But the dog ate my winning lottery ticket and she won’t believe me.

My dog ran away. And I miss him.

I had a chocolate-chip cookie in my hand. My cat jumped on the sofa and nibbled on it.

 

He died assured that he would be with his loved ones who preceded him. He found himself then on a very small island just a few handbreadths out from him on all sides, it was not what he had been to believe

 

She looked at a picture of the proud little girl with her new baby brother.

Then she put the wreath and teddy bear by all the others that lay on the roadside.

 

This is so sad, I don't want to "Like" it.

I died. Then it got worse.

 

The judge declared, "The pardon is in effect, you are released and you are free to go now, the court is now adjourned."

The earlier prisoner departed with a smile on his face until he exited the building and realized this was on a small island in the midst of an infested swamp all around.

 

Her axe slammed into my face, deep into my eye socket. A blurred image from my other eye saw her recoil for another blow.

 

As he moved through the shared work kitchen, his careless gesture swept my prepared lunch onto the floor, where it was trodden on.

I wish this was made up, but it happened to me one day at work.

 

She put my card into the reader.
"Sorry, sir. It's been declined," she said.

 

I traded my last few coins for a piglet, hoping to survive the winter. The pig died.

 

When the feeling's gone and you can't go on, it's tragedy.
